Marine & Structural - Subject Matter Expert (SME)
The Marine & Structural Subject Matter Expert's overall responsibilities are, but not limited to, the following:
• Promote and enforce adherence to safe work systems and practices to mitigate risks for personnel, contractors, and assets.
• Ensure full compliance with company policies, procedures, guidelines, industry best practices, applicable regulations, and relevant legislation.
• Contribute to project goals and departmental objectives by actively participating in project meetings and providing routine progress and status updates to Project Support Specialists (Project Planner, Document Controller, etc.)
• Develop and maintain accurate asset identification registers and criticality assessments, supported by associated documentation for marine and structural systems.
• Update and manage the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to reflect all planned marine and structural activities.
• Prepare both high-level and detailed Scopes of Work (SOW) for inspection, maintenance, repair, modification, implementation, and commissioning activities related to marine and structural systems.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary project teams to ensure alignment between operational requirements and project schedules.
• Support budgeting, procurement, and supply chain activities by providing technical specifications and discipline expertise.
• Generate and issue material and service requisitions, including detailed technical requirements and scope definitions.
• Address engineering, quality, and safety-related issues through technical queries and ensure timely resolution, escalating matters where required.
• Maintain project records, reports, documentation, certifications, and maintenance history by supporting uploads to the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Review technical documentation, maintenance records, OEM recommendations, and certification packages to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
• Oversee the inspection, maintenance, repair, and commissioning of marine systems including mooring, anchoring, towing, and associated structural equipment.
• Coordinate maintenance and integrity management activities for ballast, bilge, fuel, potable water, mud, and greywater tank systems.
• Ensure operational readiness and compliance of safety and emergency systems, including fire and gas detection systems, fire suppression systems, ESD systems, PA/GA systems, and lifesaving appliances.
• Support the maintenance and inspection of accommodation and welfare facilities, including galley, laundry, sanitary, medical, and recreational areas.
• Coordinate and support classification society surveys, flag state inspections, regulatory audits, and third-party verification activities.
• Determine scope requirements and coordinate structural modification projects with contractors, vendors, and subcontractors, ensuring work is executed safely and in accordance with approved engineering standards.
• Ensure compliance with applicable maritime regulations and industry standards, including IMO conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL), MODU Code, ISM Code, ISPS Code, and flag state requirements.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to onboard marine personnel and project teams, supporting commissioning activities, system handovers, and punch-list closeout activities.
• Support asset integrity and reliability initiatives through inspections, assessments, risk evaluations, and continuous improvement activities to ensure safe and efficient operations.(adapted from the overall SME responsibilities and marine scope)
