Description
About the role:
GLG's Gurugram office is a global capability center (GCC) housing the full spectrum of GLG's functions - research, technology, operations, finance, legal, and more. Teams are embedded into global and regional structures, with leaders distributed across time zones. This creates a distinctive HR challenge: the HRBP must hold the site together as a coherent people organization while respecting the diversity of functional reporting lines and global HR frameworks.
The Senior Director / Director, HRBP is the senior-most HR leader in Gurugram. You are the primary HR partner to the Gurugram Site Head and the face of HR for the employees on-site. At the same time, you collaborate daily with global functional HRBPs (who partner with the same business groups from a functional lens).
This is a high-impact, dual-track role: strategic enough to co-own the Gurugram people agenda with site leadership, and hands-on enough to ensure flawless day-to-day HR execution for a complex, multi-function India workforce.
What you will own:
Site HR leadership:
- Serve as the primary HR partner to the Gurugram Site Head -- the go-to person for all people matters affecting the India site, from workforce planning and org design to culture, engagement, and crisis response.
- Represent Gurugram employees in global HR conversations, ensuring their interests, career opportunities, and experience are visible to global leadership.
- Own the Gurugram employer brand and retention strategy, addressing GCC-specific challenges: attrition management, career pathing for employees with overseas functional leaders, and engagement across distributed team structures.
- Ensure full compliance with Indian labor law -- PF, ESI, Gratuity, POSH, Shops and Establishments Act, Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act -- and maintain audit-ready HR practices across the India entity.
Strategic HR business partnering:
- Proactively develop, recommend, and implement a Gurugram people strategy tied to GLG's business goals, covering org development, talent acquisition, performance management, retention, learning and development, and employee relations.
- Assess organizational capability against business strategy; translate business needs into HR interventions that have measurable impact.
- Act as a trusted advisor and coach to senior India leaders and managers, providing thought leadership on team effectiveness, leadership development, and culture.
- Use a strong commercial mindset and deep understanding of your business groups to anticipate people challenges before they escalate.
- Use data and HR analytics to identify trends, focus resources, mitigate risk, and inform the people strategy.
Matrix and global collaboration:
- Navigate a complex multi-stakeholder environment: you have a primary accountability to the Gurugram Site Head while also partnering with global functional HRBPs who cover the same employee population from a functional lens. Clarity of lane, strong relationships, and proactive communication are essential.
- Partner with global HRBPs to deliver consistent, high-quality HR support to Gurugram employees within global frameworks.
- Contribute to and lead local and global HR projects and strategic initiatives as required.
People and team leadership
- Build, manage, and develop the Gurugram HR team, setting clear expectations, coaching for growth, and holding the team to high execution standards.
- Drive a culture of feedback, high performance, and continuous improvement within your team and across the Gurugram business.
- Partner with business leaders on performance management, career progression, promotion processes, and job re-leveling.
HR operations and compliance:
- Oversee all day-to-day HR activities for Gurugram, ensuring timely and accurate execution of annual cycles: compensation review, performance management, talent review, promotion and re-leveling.
- Interpret and apply company policies and procedures; ensure alignment with India statutory requirements and proactively flag compliance risks.
- Lead and conduct employee relations investigations -- from informal disputes to formal POSH inquiries -- with impartiality and rigor.
- Work with the Compensation team to design and apply effective compensation and benefits programs that reflect India market realities, statutory floors, and GLG's global frameworks.
- Advance diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across the Gurugram site, with particular focus on hiring, development, and retention.
What you bring:
Experience:
- 10-12+ years of progressive HRBP experience, with a meaningful portion in a GCC, captive center, or complex multi-national India environment.
- Demonstrated experience as a site or country-level HR leader -- not just a functional HRBP -- with accountability for the full employee experience of a significant India workforce.
- Proven track record navigating matrix organizations where employees have both local site leadership and global functional leadership.
- Hands-on India labor law expertise: PF, ESI, Gratuity, POSH, Shops and Establishments Act, and related statutory requirements. Comfortable being the compliance authority in the room.
- Experience managing and developing an HR team.
- Track record of executing organizational changes that support business strategy.
Skills and capabilities:
- Strong stakeholder management across multiple levels: site leadership, global functional leaders, global HRBPs, and frontline employees.
- Ability to adapt and be agile -- navigate ambiguity, hold competing priorities, and make sound decisions with incomplete information.
- Commercial mindset: you understand how businesses make money and can connect HR decisions to business outcomes.
- Data-fluent: comfortable using HR analytics to build a case, identify trends, and measure impact.
- Technically strong across HR disciplines: compensation, talent management, employee relations, org development, and change management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting to and influencing senior global stakeholders.
- Results-oriented with a bias for action and willingness to be hands-on when needed.
Why this role:
This is one of the most complex and consequential HRBP roles in GLG. You are not supporting a business unit -- you are shaping the people agenda for GLG's largest India office, a site that cuts across every function in the company. You will have genuine influence over how GLG attracts, develops, and retains talent in India, and your work will be visible to senior global leadership. If you thrive in ambiguity, enjoy operating at both the strategic and the operational level, and want to be the HR leader for a high-growth, intellectually driven organization, this role is built for you.
