Athletic Trainer - Pool

Tacoma Community College (TCC) was built on the ancestral territory of Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Puyallup and Squaxin Island Tribes. The 1854 Medicine Creek Treaty forcibly removed them to Reservations to make way for colonizers; we recognize the privilege of utilizing this land has come at a great cost. Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Athletic Coordinator, the Part-Time Certified Athletic Trainer provides athletic training and medical coverage for assigned Tacoma Community College (TCC) home athletic contests tournaments, and drop in hours. The Athletic Trainer provides professional athletic training services  in accordance with TCC, Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC), Washington State, and applicable professional athletic training standards.

Applicant pool positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for a period of 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur. Submitting an application does not guarantee that a position will be available or offered. 

• Provide athletic training coverage for assigned TCC home athletic contests and tournaments.
• Provide appropriate preventive care, injury evaluation, first aid, emergency care, and injury management during assigned events.
• Independently assess athletic injuries and medical concerns and exercise appropriate professional judgment regarding immediate care, referral, and follow-up.
• Respond appropriately to athletic injuries and medical emergencies and activate emergency action procedures when necessary.
• Provide concussion assessment and management in accordance with TCC, NWAC, and professional standards.
• Coordinate with coaches, officials, emergency medical personnel, visiting athletic trainers, and other appropriate personnel regarding student-athlete medical needs.
• Assist with communication and coordination of athletic training and medical needs for visiting teams during assigned contests.
• Complete required injury reports, medical documentation, and game-day records.
• Provide appropriate post-game evaluation, care instructions, and follow-up recommendations when necessary.
• Maintain confidentiality of student athletic information and comply with applicable HIPAA, FERPA, and college policies.
• Arrive on time and be prepared to provide coverage for assigned events.
• Communicate with the Athletic Coordinator, Athletic Director, or designated athletic department staff regarding injuries, medical concerns, or other issues arising during game coverage.
• Follow TCC and NWAC policies, procedures, medical standards, sportsmanship expectations, and safety requirements.
• Maintain current professional licenses, credentials, certifications, and required training.
• Perform other duties related to assigned game coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• Current Washington State Athletic Trainer license or eligibility for licensure.
• Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification or eligibility for certification.
• Current BLS/CPR and AED certification for healthcare providers.
• Experience providing athletic training coverage in an intercollegiate or competitive sports setting preferred.

The Successful Candidate will demonstrate

• Knowledge of athletic training, emergency care, injury evaluation, concussion management, and appropriate medical procedures.
• Ability to work independently and make sound professional decisions in a fast-paced game environment.
• Strong communication,  interpersonal, and organiztional skills.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with student-athletes, coaches, officials, healthcare providers, and athletic department personnel.
• Availability to work varied schedules, including evenings and weekends.

• Successful completion of required TCC and NWAC training and/or administrative requirements.
• Maintenance of all required professional licenses and certifications throughout employment.
• Employment and game assignments will be based on departmental needs and the Athletic Trainer's availability.
