Pre-Trial Enforcement Officer

Under limited supervision within outlined objectives, performs highly responsible work in enforcing conditions of pre-trial bond, collecting urine samples for drug testing purposes, and communicating with the Courts when necessary. CSCD employees are expected to use professional courtesy, discretion and sound judgment when engaging in any contact with clients, co-workers, court personnel and other employees and the public.  

Cannot be employed as a peace officer or work as a reserve or volunteer peace officer; and cannot currently be on community supervision, parole, or serving a sentence for a criminal offense.

Hours are 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday.  Salary is $47,000.00 with a competitive benefits package. In addition to the online application, a resume and copy of high school diploma/GED are required prior to interview.  Although the CSCD is affiliated with Smith County, department employees are not county employees.

• Assume overall responsibility for the management and supervision of an assigned caseload and apply current state laws, court directives, and Department policies and procedures to case management.
• Complete all necessary actions for the supervision of new cases, including conducting initial interviews and explaining conditions of bond to the defendant.
• Conduct regular office visits and utilize all appropriate supervision tools available to Pretrial Officers, including electronic monitoring, urinalysis testing, collateral contacts, and other conditions ordered by the Court. Directly observe and collect urinalysis specimens from defendants of the same gender.
• Monitor and document defendant's compliance with court-ordered conditions and take appropriate action in accordance with Department policies and procedures.
• Attend Court hearings as directed, provide testimony as required, and submit required reports and recommendations to the Court.
• Complete all required documentation and ensure that information contained in the Department's computer software system is current, accurate, complete, and entered in a timely manner.
• Ensure all fees owed by defendants are properly collected, documented, and recorded.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor or Department Director.

• Must have the ability to work in a standing position for extended periods of time when observing uranalysis collections.
• Must have the ability to walk frequently when accompanying an individual to and from the lobby area of the building.
• Must be able to accurately see and determine test results on small labels on the urinalysis collection cups. Cannot be employed as a peace officer or work as a reserve or volunteer peace officer.
• Must speak, read and write English fluently.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with all types of people.
• Must have strong organizational and prioritization skills.
• Must pass a background check.
• Must pass a drug test.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

• High School Diploma/GED Required

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred; bilingual pay incentive available.

Daily sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, pulling, reaching and lifting of items possibly weighing 40 pounds or more.
