Job Description:

The Nebraska Motor Vehicle Industry Licensing Board is seeking a Western Nebraska Investigator. Responsibilities include investigating
consumer complaints and acting as an educational resource to dealers. The Investigator will be responsible for a region consisting of
counties in Western Nebraska as well as assisting other investigators in their regions as needed. Because this is a remote field position,
preferred applicants would be from Western Nebraska. The Investigator will have access to a State vehicle during normal hours of employment.


 

Job Duties

• Investigate possible violations of the Motor Vehicle Industry Regulation Act such as open titles, odometer fraud, unlawful use of dealer plates, identification number violations, in-transit decal violations, dealer’s failure to deliver title, registration documents and certificates of title by fraudulent means and altering Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs), and fictitious or forged information on certificates, applications, or bills of sale.

• Investigate complaints filed against motor vehicle/trailer/motorcycle dealers by collecting and reviewing evidence including copies of all documents related to the investigation and statements made by the parties and witnesses.

• Prepare written investigative reports and mediate consumer complaints.

• Testify at Motor Vehicle Industry Licensing Board hearings.

• Collaborate with the Department of Motor Vehicles, county officials, local law enforcement, attorneys, insurance companies, federal officials, and other entities to facilitate the investigation and provide documentation of relevant facts.


 

Requirements/ Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Post secondary education in criminal justice, business or public administration and previous work experience in the motor vehicle industry, law enforcement, or investigative experience in other state, local or private agencies. Experience can be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications: Current Nebraska Law Enforcement Certification to be eligible for a Nebraska Deputy State Sheriff Commission. Bilingual skills, specifically Spanish or Arabic.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Knowledge: Understand the techniques and procedures used in investigations and inspections; the principles and practices of interviewing; departmental rules and regulations, and the Motor Vehicle Industry Regulation Act.

Abilities: Able to communicate effectively; interpret laws, statutes and legal documents; make independent judgments and decisions; interact professionally with licensees, the public, and law enforcement agencies; identify and extract pertinent information from records, conversations, and observations; prepare complete, detailed and factual investigative reports; and collect, organize and present testimony effectively during board meetings and hearings.

Skills: Proficient with basic computer/technology software/hardware including Microsoft Office, Outlook email, iPads and iPhones.
