JOB SUMMARY:
The Student Training Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the student training support functions, ensuring students receive the guidance, resources, planning, and coordination necessary to successfully complete the driver training program. This role is a key member of the Driver Training leadership team and works closely with the Director of Driver Training to support student success, improve retention, strengthen communication, and enhance the overall training experience.
The Student Training Manager provides leadership, coaching, and direction to the Student Training Counselors, Student Planners, and Graduate Yard Coordinator. The position establishes departmental goals and initiatives, manages student engagement efforts, and promotes a positive, professional environment focused on student development, accountability, and successful completion of training milestones.
Please note this position is on-site at Stevens Transport HQ in Dallas, Tx.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct leadership and oversight of the Student Counseling Department and related student training support functions.
Supervise, coach, and develop Student Training Counselors, Student Planners, and the Graduate Yard Coordinator to ensure consistent, high-quality student support.
Partner with the Director of Driver Training to develop and execute student success, retention, engagement, and training completion strategies.
Monitor student progression through all phases of training and coordinate timely intervention when challenges or barriers arise.
Serve as the primary escalation point for student issues, concerns, complaints, and conflict resolution.
Develop, implement, and maintain processes, policies, and best practices that support student engagement, accountability, and successful completion of training milestones.
Collaborate with Driver Trainers, Training Safety, Recruiting, Operations, and other departments to strengthen communication and enhance the student experience.
Analyze retention, completion, progression, and satisfaction metrics and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
Conduct regular team meetings, performance reviews, coaching sessions, and development discussions with direct reports.
Ensure accurate, timely, and detailed documentation of student interactions, concerns, action plans, and resolutions.
Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, communication, customer service, and continuous improvement.
Prepare and present departmental performance reports, trends, and recommendations to the Director of Driver Training.
Identify opportunities to improve the student experience and increase training completion rates.
Coordinate student planning and graduate yard activities to support an organized transition through training milestones.
Lead special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Director of Driver Training.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing employees in a fast-paced operational or service environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with students, drivers, employees, leaders, and cross-functional partners.
Proven ability to manage escalated concerns, resolve conflict, and maintain professionalism during challenging situations.
Strong organizational, prioritization, and follow-through skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
Ability to interpret performance data, identify trends, and recommend practical improvements.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in transportation, logistics, driver training, workforce development, education, or a related environment.
Experience supporting student, trainee, employee, or customer retention and engagement programs.
Experience developing procedures, departmental goals, performance reports, or continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience with AS/400 or related transportation systems.

Work Experience:
3+ years of leadership, supervisory, coaching, or team management experience.
5+ years of professional experience in training, operations, transportation, customer service, employee development, or a related field preferred.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Education, Transportation, Logistics, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Frequent communication by phone, video conference, and in-person meetings.
Ability to move throughout office, training, and yard environments as business needs require.
