Position Summary
The Utility Supervisor supports the Route Manager in overseeing daily sales and distribution operations for our pre-packaged ice cream products, including routes operating from an off-site satellite location.
This is a hands-on position responsible for supporting route personnel, monitoring route performance and customer service, maintaining cold-chain and freezer standards, and resolving day-to-day operational issues.
The Utility Supervisor must also be able to personally cover delivery routes when regular drivers are unavailable and deliver, place, or exchange company freezer equipment at customer locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support daily delivery and sales routes.
- Assist the Route Manager with oversight, training, and coaching of route personnel.
- Monitor route performance, sales, inventory movement, customer service, and route productivity.
- Ensure timely deliveries and proper stocking, rotation, and merchandising of products.
- Maintain cold-chain, freezer cleanliness, temperature, and product-handling standards.
- Resolve customer complaints, delivery issues, shortages, damages, and service problems.
- Monitor freezer placements and ensure company equipment is properly maintained and presented.
- Deliver and exchange freezer equipment at customer locations as needed.
- Prepare and review route and sales performance reports.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety requirements, and DOT regulations.
When Covering Routes
- Safely operate company vehicles and comply with all DOT requirements.
- Load, transport, deliver, and unload products to customer locations.
- Stock, rotate, and merchandise products according to company standards.
- Maintain clean, organized freezers, displays, and backstock areas.
- Set up promotional displays and maintain proper product presentation.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Identify and communicate customer issues, competitive activity, and sales opportunities.
- Collect returns, damaged or out-of-date products, empty shells, and pallets.
- Maintain accurate product, invoice, customer transaction, and daily route settlement records.
- Properly care for company products, vehicles, equipment, and other assets.
Requirements
- Valid CDL Class B in good standing with a clean MVR
- Minimum 25 years of age
- Ability to meet and maintain DOT physical requirements and pass a DOT drug screen
- Knowledge of local routes and retail environments preferred
- Understanding of frozen product handling and cold-storage procedures
- Strong leadership, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work early hours and in temperature-sensitive environments
- Ability to repetitively lift up to 50 lbs.
- Basic computer and mobile reporting skills
- Basic math, reading, writing, and communication skills
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- High school diploma or GED
- Regular and prompt attendance
- Compliance with PPE and all company safety policies
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance
- Ability to properly use company-provided technology and resources
- Ability to protect company products, equipment, vehicles, and other assets
