Description
About Voyage Advisory
Voyage Advisory is a boutique management consulting firm that helps organizations elevate service, drive performance, and power transformation. We partner with clients across customer experience, operations, technology, and organizational change initiatives, delivering practical solutions and measurable results.
As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced utilities industry leader to serve as a Senior Advisor focused on business development and strategic relationship cultivation.
Position Overview
The Senior Advisor – Utilities Business Development will leverage an established network of utilities industry relationships to identify opportunities, create introductions, and help expand Voyage Advisory's presence within the utilities market.
This is not a traditional, end-to-end sales role, since Voyage's internal team supports proposal development, SOWs, and contracting. Rather, we are seeking a highly respected industry veteran who understands the challenges facing utilities organizations, maintains strong executive-level relationships, and can help connect Voyage with decision-makers who may benefit from our consulting services, and is expected to help guide those relationships toward closed business.
This is a flexible, part-time position requiring approximately 10–30 hours per month. While the schedule is flexible, this is an active, accountable role with defined performance expectations, not an informal referral arrangement.
Key Responsibilities
- Leverage existing relationships within the utilities industry to identify potential opportunities for Voyage Advisory.
- Introduce Voyage leadership to executive decision-makers and key stakeholders.
- Serve as a trusted advisor regarding industry trends, challenges, and market opportunities.
- Represent Voyage Advisory in industry conversations, events, conferences, and networking opportunities for sales and marketing purposes.
- Provide insight into emerging client needs and strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with Voyage leadership to develop targeted growth strategies within the utilities sector.
- Work closely with Voyage's internal team on proposals, SOWs, and other deal mechanics.
- Attend a standing internal sales meeting and maintain accurate, up-to-date records in Voyage's sales CRM.
- Meet quarterly performance targets tied to pipeline contribution and closed business, consistent with the paid nature of this role.
- Participate in occasional prospect meetings and business development discussions.
- Help strengthen Voyage's reputation and visibility within the utilities marketplace.
- May have the opportunity to get involved in Voyage consulting engagements as a Senior Advisor, for those who are interested in additional project work.
Qualifications
Required
- 15+ years of leadership experience within the utilities industry.
- Extensive network across electric, gas, water, or multi-service utility organizations.
- Relationships with utility executives responsible for customer operations, contact centers, field operations, technology, digital transformation, and enterprise operations.
- Prior management consulting experience with a recognized consulting firm or substantial consulting leadership experience.
- Extensive network of executive-level relationships across utilities companies, or related industry segments.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders.
- Excellent communication and executive presence.
- Experience working on enterprise business development, ideally including: management consulting proposals and solutions
- Former utility executive, consulting partner, business unit leader, or transformation executive.
- Experience working with regulated utilities and utility modernization initiatives.
- Personal rapport with C-suite and senior executives at utilities organizations Voyage is currently targeting.
Work Arrangement
- Part-time (approximately 10–30 hours per month)
- Remote
- Occasional travel may be required
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role is measured by the ability to create meaningful introductions, generate qualified opportunities, help convert those opportunities into closed or signed business, and help Voyage Advisory establish and expand strategic relationships within the utilities industry.
Compensation Structure
Compensation involves a competitive hourly rate. In addition, there will be a commission structure put in place tied to business development and referral success.
