Schedule: Full Time (40hrs/week) - This position will support the Nursing Resource Department.

What You'll Do

Utilizing advanced knowledge, education and competence, the Onboarding Specialist I will function in an expanded role within the assigned clinical department(s) in collaboration with unit leaders and preceptors ensuring all required orientation and educational opportunities occur during the orientation phase. In addition, will assist with the assessment of educational needs of the assigned departmental staff in order to plan, implement, and evaluate educational/orientation opportunities. Assists with the development and/or implementation of system-wide courses, workshops and in-services. The Onboarding Specialist I promotes and leads by example the Freeman Health System's Five Star Promise of Compassion, Teamwork, Professionalism, Ownership and Communication.

Essential Functions:

  • Formulates program outcomes and designs curricula that reflect contemporary health care trends and prepare students to function effectively in the health care environment.

  • Engages in use of scholarship and scholarly activities that initiate efforts towards quality improvement, curriculum design and instructional methodologies

  • Coordinates items related to orientation on the unit to successfully onboard new employees. Tracks and maintains orientation checksheets per position, manages new employee schedules through orientation, works with preceptors to facilitate successful orientation to the unit.

  • Develops and facilitates unit learning plans, employee academic reviews, preceptor training series, and other education per needs of the unit. Addresses educational needs in a proactive manor by developing communication channels with physicians, unit directors, and leadership to gain insight on upcoming issues or trends.

  • Conducts daily rounding on new employees, unit secretaries, nurse technicians, registered nurses and preceptors to evaluate and address educational needs on the unit. Arranges to round on night shift employees per needs of unit.

  • Follows established department policy and procedure in development and execution of program and/or educational activities.

  • Attends department staff meetings and implements/incorporates staff meeting minutes into professional work.

  • Creates an environment in classroom, simulation, and clinical settings that facilitates student learning and achieves cognitive, affective and psychomotor outcomes. Assist a wide range of students to develop in their role and integrates the values and behaviors expected of those that fulfill each role. Uses a variety of strategies to assess and evaluate student learning in classroom, simulation and clinical settings.

  • Creates and/or participates in curricular review of learning plans and curriculum for the following programs: unit monthly education (12 per calendar year), FINALE, RN Residency (as needed) and Patient Care Orientation.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years nursing experience

  • Current Missouri Registered Nurse license or current Registered Nurse license from a compact state. If a compact license is held, it must be in the nurses state of residence.

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Education or Healthcare related field.
