Schedule Details: three 12 hour shifts/week (7am-7pm)

Join a fast-paced Emergency Department team where your clinical expertise, critical thinking, and compassion directly impact patient outcomes. Working alongside emergency medicine providers and nurses, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional, patient-centered care while supporting life-saving interventions and emergency treatment.

  • Deliver basic and advanced life support care, treatment, and patient assessments in accordance with established protocols and standards of practice.

  • Provide ongoing patient care and maintain accurate, timely documentation in Epic.

  • Gather patient information, obtain and document vital signs, and prepare treatment areas to support efficient patient evaluation and care.

  • Continuously monitor patient conditions, communicate changes to the care team, and document treatments and outcomes appropriately.

  • Initiate and implement clinical interventions according to department protocols and assist providers and nurses with treatments, procedures, and diagnostic testing.

  • Perform select clinical skills upon demonstrated competency and within hospital policy and professional scope of practice.

  • Identify, assess, and help stabilize acutely ill or injured patients in collaboration with physicians and registered nurses.

  • Educate patients and families on medical conditions, treatments, discharge instructions, and ongoing care needs.

  • Partner closely with nursing and provider teams to deliver specialized care, including:

    • Medication administration per protocol

    • Patient reassessments

    • Breathing treatments and airway support

    • Suctioning assistance

    • Peripheral IV insertion

    • Acuity-specific discharge education

  • Safely transport and transfer patients throughout the facility for testing, treatment, and admissions while ensuring patient comfort and safety.

  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuing education opportunities to remain current on departmental updates, patient care practices, and operational improvements.


Requirements

  • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required

  • Successful completion of a state approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), or Paramedic program or course, or graduate of Medical Assistant Program (Clinical Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or Registered Medical Assistant) required

  • 1+ years experience in Pediatrics, Emergency Department or Urgent Care preferred

  • Collaborative teamwork skills within an interdisciplinary group focused on patient care.

  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment. Exhibits strong decision-making skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times according to policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.

  • Demonstrates compassion and patience with a deep level of concern for patients.

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment. Must be able to communicate effectively and in a positive manner with patients, family, public, and other health care workers.

  • Must be able to cope with stressful situations, including death and dying and dealing with anguished relatives.

Orientation: If hired attendance will be required the first week at a New Hire Welcome day on Monday from 9a-4p.   There are 3 days of central care partner orientation from 8a-4:30p on Tuesday, Wed and Thursday that first week.   We prefer participation in all the sessions, but at minimum, the Thursday session is mandatory.   

The Emergency Department/Trauma Center provides emergency health care for children and adolescents up until their 18th birthday who present for care.. Emergency care is provided for all types of illnesses and injuries, 24 hours a day.  The severity of illness and injury varies and is defined by the Triage guidelines as non-urgent, urgent, and emergent.  54% of all inpatient admissions will come from the EDTC, which is 17% of all EDTC patients.  With the frequent populations seen, collaborative practice protocols help to expedite care delivered.
