Description

When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives.

Job Description:

The Lahey Hospital Medicine Advanced Practice (AP) Fellowship is an intensive 12-month postgraduate fellowship program dedicated to enhancing the development of early-career advanced practice providers (APPs), both Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, or for those who are new to hospital-based medicine. The fellowship mission is to provide a solid foundation in hospital-based medicine that will help the APP develop the clinical decision making skills required to care for our diverse and increasingly complex patients. The program is intended to help novice or new to hospital-based medicine APPs develop a wide range of knowledge and skills that will help them grow into competent and well-rounded hospital medicine providers.

Under the direction of their preceptor initially, hospital medicine fellows will gain the knowledge, skills and abilities to assess acute and chronic patient illnesses; obtain complete medical histories and perform physical examinations; order and interpret laboratory tests and imaging studies; formulate and implement a diagnosis and treatment plan; seek consultation or referral as necessary; accurately prescribe and/or dispense medication and counsel patients and their families/caregivers. Throughout the program, hospital medicine APP fellows will be exposed to diverse patient populations, including those patients being cared for under specialty services as well as pulmonary critical care.

Fellows will rotate through our main campus in Burlington and satellite facility in Peabody, as well as our partner hospital in Beverly. Fellows will also be expected to rotate through day, swing and overnight rotations within the 12- month program.

Detailed Objectives By the end of the 12-month program, fellows should be able to:

  • Manage patients safely throughout their entire hospital stay.

  • Provide highly coordinated, cost-effective care to diverse patient populations in order to improve patient outcomes.

  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families as well as their colleagues and other members of the healthcare team. Assist with educating and training of students and new providers.

Shift

1. The schedule will be made by the HM service for the 12-months of the fellowship

2. Fellows should expect to work 40 hours per week on average, with every 3rd weekend

3. Shifts are 9, 10 and 12 hours, depending on day, swing or night

4. There are 4 scheduled vacation weeks (for a total of 160 hours)

5. Fellows will not be allowed to take vacation during the first 12 weeks of the fellowship due to the nature of the intensity of the program.

6. Fellows will earn 2 personal days that can be used during the last 30 weeks of the fellowship

7. Fellows are expected to be present for all didactic classes and educational experiences

8. Fellows will be expected to rotate all shifts, day, swing and overnight shifts.

Education

  • Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited Physician Program.
  • Documentation of registration for next NCCPA Board administration or successful completion of NCCPA Board and maintenance of appropriate CME.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Graduate of a Masters Program in Nursing. Board certification as AGACNP is preferred. Maintain currency through Clinical Education Units.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:

  • Certification and current license to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • DEA number and Mass Department of Public Health Division of Food and Drug Restricted Substances registration number as appropriate.
  • Written prescription privilege protocols signed by all attendings with whom the individual will be working.

Pay Range:

$93,000.00 USD - $93,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
