Hiring Salary Range:
$67,687.00 - $75,748.26 Annually

Job Summary:  
The Career Preparation Specialist will work under the direction of the Work-Based Learning Manager at Baltimore City Public Schools, in the Office of Secondary Success and Innovation (SS&I) in partnership with the Blueprint Sr. Program Manager. This role is responsible for student support, preparation, and oversight in the implementation of Work Based Learning programming. The specialist will build relationships with City Schools’ work-based learning team, college and career readiness school-based staff, students, and parents/guardians to ensure students are experiencing and completing high-quality and successful work-based learning programs that include apprenticeship or internship.
 
Essential Functions:
  • Serves as the primary contact for students and school-based team and supports the logistics of their participation in SS&I work-based learning opportunities
  • Work closely with students and school-based teams to vet and match students to relevant WBL opportunities based on the plans and goals in a student’s Career Exploration Portfolio
  • Monitors and maintains oversight of work experience opportunities for all students enrolled in Work-Based Learning, Apprenticeship, and Internship courses
  • Oversees coordinated strategy with Career Coaches to prepare students for WBL opportunities (resume and interview prep, career fair prep workshops etc.),
  • Maintains all student legal forms and documents in the Google Drive and School inks
  • Hosts student and parent engagement events around work-based learning awareness
  • Collects data and prepares reports for submission to the Office of Secondary Success and Innovation
  • Leverages employer network at City Schools to plan and execute WBL events and activities including but not limited to school based and district wide career fairs, guest speaker engagements and company tours/job shadows
  • Works in coordination and collaboration with BCCI Career Coaches and Work Based
  • Learning Specialists under the direction of the Work-Based Learning Manager
  • Performs other duties as required
 
Minimum Qualifications:     
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a relevant field preferred.
AND
Experience: Two years of directly related experience working with young people.
OR
Equivalency Notes: An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted, as long as it directly relates to the essential duties and responsibilities. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated understanding and/or certification in youth development practices.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and gender backgrounds
  • Strong analytical writing skills and oral communication skills
  • Ability to develop and conduct presentations and information sessions
  • Understands the Apprenticeship Maryland Program and/or Competency-Based Registered Apprenticeship and can communicate the program to all stakeholders (e.g. students, parents, counselors, work-based learning coordinators, and teachers)
  • Strong data and project management skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and school-based teams
  • Knowledge of personal computer with word processing, spreadsheet, database applications, etc. in a Google Drive
Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to work hybrid with a result-driven approach and responsiveness to students and staff
  • Ability to travel to and between schools frequently
Additional Information 
Background Check                                        
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. 
Probation 
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
