Description
PURPOSE
The Staff Accountant supports the Senior Accountant and Accounting Manager with day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and on time. This role requires composure under tight deadlines and strong communication skills to keep supervisors informed of issues or potential delays. The Staff Accountant assists with gathering information for year-end audits and quarterly reviews, reconciles balance sheet accounts (including cash), and analyzes accounts to propose adjustments that comply with accounting standards and financial reporting requirements. Strong written and verbal interpersonal skills are essential. This position reports to the Senior Accountant.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Support accurate, timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close in accordance with US GAAP.
- Support accurate, timely reporting of monthly financial information.
- Assist in preparing the monthly financial review package, including financial statements, variance analysis, purchases, and AP/AR aging.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations accurately and on time.
- Perform monthly and quarterly general ledger account reconciliations, ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance, and propose adjustments as needed.
- Support the external audit team with requests and preparation of audit schedules.
- Reconcile intercompany transactions, generate invoices as needed, and record any missing intercompany entries.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Advise staff on the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
- Respond to inquiries from the Accounting Manager or Senior Accountant regarding financial results, special reporting requests, and projects.
- Code non-PO invoice expenses to the correct ledger accounts and ensure proper accounting treatment.
- Partner with the Controller, Accounting Manager, and Senior Accountant to support a clean, timely year-end audit.
- Assist with monthly recurring adjustments, including depreciation expense, goodwill amortization, and bonus accruals.
- Participate in implementing new procedures and tools to improve department workflow.
- Assist the Accounting Manager/Senior Accountant in preparing financial reporting packages and periodic financial information for the local bookkeeper in Italy, supporting statutory financial preparation for the company's Italian affiliate.
- Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
- Support the Accounting Manager/Senior Accountant on special projects and process improvements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting.
- 3+ years of experience in an accounting role; public accounting experience a plus.
- Prior supervisory experience in financial reporting or general ledger preferred.
- Strong PC proficiency; able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Experience with enterprise accounting software (e.g., Epicor) a plus. Strong Excel, Outlook, and Word skills required.

- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
