The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for performing specialized and difficult diagnostic imaging examinations of patients, ionizing radiation to render optimum images which are used to support diagnoses and provide insight into medical issues, concerns or conditions. This position conducts preliminary analysis on images and collaborates with doctors and other Healthcare professionals to interpret images. This position assists in the training of students and technologists. The Technologist maintains optimum timeliness, accuracy, proficiency, efficiency, and safety during the execution of duties, and works closely with patients to ensure they have an understanding of procedures and are comfortable during procedures.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

  • Apply Principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others. Immobilize patient as required for appropriate examination. Determine appropriate radiographic technique exposure factors. Utilize appropriate shielding devices.

  • Exchange and properly maintains film badge dosimeter.

  • Corroborate patient's clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available to practitioner. Assist in maintaining records, respecting confidentiality and established policy. Provides proper patient explanation with appropriate consent forms for interventional procedures.

  • Select and operate radiography equipment, imaging, and associated accessories to successfully perform procedures. Position patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability, comfort and dignity. Evaluate radiographs or images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded. Practice aseptic techniques as necessary.

  • Provide attention and concern for the physical, psychological and age-specific needs of the patient. Understand and recognize a life threatening condition and can implement basic life sustaining actions. Perform AIDET.

  • Prepare patient for procedure, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety. Provide patient with post procedural instructions. Demonstrate and instruct equipment manipulation and positioning skills to students. Instruct student on film critique and evaluation. Supervise the clinical activities of students and is with student for repeat exposures. Perform application of didactic material.

  • Effectively communicate with team, hospital staff, patients, physicians, and guests. Demonstrate flexibility in responding to staffing issues and participates as an effective member of the team. Share significant information with Supervisor and Manager. Participatein department performance improvement activities. Effectively assist with instruction and orientation of new coworkers. Interact with and contributes to the professional development of peers & colleagues.

  • Clean, maintain, and restock inventory rooms.

  • Collaborate on medical issues with physicians.

  • Completes general diagnostic imaging exams and procedures by providing optimal images for review, proper annotation, markers, evaluates and submits images according to policy and protocol.

  • Confirm patient identity and obtain and record patient identification, medical history, or test results; review and update patient documentation in EMR/PACS.

  • Practice established safety guidelines and utilize ALARA radiation reduction tools and techniques.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Radiology Certificate required  

  • Associate's Degree preferred  

  • 1 year of Radiology experience required

  • Radiology Student Permit OR Indiana Radiology License required  

  • ARRT-R certification required
