About the Position

To manage all assets of the CAP water delivery system. The Maintenance West/South Departments are responsible for implementing and managing a proactive, preventive, and reliability centered maintenance program for the open aqueduct system, aqueduct check structures and turnout structures, several major pumping plants including one pump/generator plant, and New Waddell Dam. These Departments make water delivery system capacity available to the CAP Water Control Department on a reliable and cost effective basis to meet the demands of Central Arizona Project (CAP) water customers. Leads and manages the safety performance of subordinate supervisors and crews.  

About the Responsibilities  
1.  Leads a major maintenance department through subordinate supervisors, with accountability for maintenance of the open aqueduct system, several major pumping plants, one pump/generator plant, and New Waddell Dam.  Manages the maintenance of major mechanical/electrical equipment, establishes priorities, allocates resources, and provides guidance on repair strategies to support safe, reliable operations and compliance with existing maintenance practices.
   
 2.  Manages the implementation of standardized preventive, predictive and reactive maintenance procedures to improve reliability, ensure consistent work execution and support asset management objectives.
   
 3. Develops, implements, and manages the departmental budget. Partners with subordinate supervisors to monitor expenditures, evaluate and explain variances, and forecast future expenses by aligning resources with maintenance priorities and financial commitments each quarter.
   
 4. Establishes clear safety expectations and holds supervisors and crews accountable for safety performance.  Supports a proactive departmental safety program aligned with the CAP’s Safety Value of keeping coworkers and the workplace safe.   
   
 5. Makes or approves departmental staffing decisions, establishes performance standards, and approves or conducts employee performance conversations.  Initiates or recommends employee performance corrective actions and holds supervisors accountable for consistent application of performance expectations.
   
 6. Coaches and mentors supervisors and staff in leadership and maintenance management. Contributes to positive culture of Field Maintenance by providing clear expectations, constructive feedback and continued development to strengthen accountability and departmental performance.

 About the Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in relevant field; OR a high school diploma / GED plus an equivalent combination of training and experience which must include an additional seven (7) years of related work experience.

• Demonstrated ability to develop goals, vision, and direction that align the department's actions to broad company defined strategic objectives.  Able to lead and guide the department to achieve these goals.
• Must have a firm commitment and effective approach for professional career development, achieving continuous improvement of managed staff.
• Ten (10) years progressive experience in an applicable field, including at least three (3) years of experience supervising professionals or multi-disciplined crafts and trades personnel.
• Excellent interpersonal communication, negotiation, conflict resolution and customer service skills.  Skilled in establishing positive working relationships across a diverse organization.
• Must have a firm commitment to business purpose and to developing and demonstrating respect for internal and external customers.
• Experience developing and effectively managing large and complex operating budgets and providing sound direction for budgetary decisions

Required Certifications or Licenses: 

• Must have valid driver's license with a good driving record.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

• Professional Engineer registration or an advanced degree. 
• Craft-level work experience and/or prior experience supervising craft and trade individuals.
• Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP)
•  Certified Reliability Leader certification (CRL).
