Description

The essential function of this Finance Technician I position is to perform accounting work of high responsibility, focusing primarily on general ledger management. The position is primarily responsible for processing general ledger records including journal entries, record maintenance and review, as well as asset and inventory management. Additional responsibilities may include supporting utility billing, payroll, accounts payable and receivable. The position works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences to ensure organizational compliance and fiscal accuracy.

Performs accounting functions such as recording and reconciling external data to the city-wide ERP system, entering adjustments to the general ledger, posting to and analyzing accounts, and making corrections as necessary. As well as aiding in the reconciling of the City’s cash disbursement account, posting of accounts payable and accounts receivable, computing and verifying accuracy of vouchers, checks, purchase orders. 

Work closely with other departments including the Golf Course and Convention Center to maintain accurate financial information and improve process efficiency. 

Gather and maintain data to prepare periodic and special reports for the area of responsibility, such as payroll information, utility billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, quarterly tax reports, and 1099s.

Cross training to support the City’s utility billing, including calculating bills and adjustments, cutoffs, posting and analyzing accounts, verifying accuracy, and making corrections as necessary. 

Performs routine clerical tasks such as data entry, phone calls, and serving as a liaison with software, credit card companies, and external support vendors; cross-trains with other finance personnel for backup as required.

May be required to attend staff meetings to exchange information or educational workshops/seminars to improve professional skills.

Requires Associate’s degree or the equivalent of two years of college or specialized vocational training in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or a closely related field.
Requires two years of related experience.
