Recreational Therapist

Under administrative direction of Program Director, or other designated supervisor, a recreational therapist on the Northeast Passage Clinical Team utilizes a strengths-based and collaborative approach to support to clients as they achieve their vision for health and quality of life across all domains.

Clinical team therapists provide goal-based recreational therapy services in homes, communities, and school settings. Treatment sessions may include both individual 1:1 and group-based interventions. Treatment sessions may include transporting (in Northeast Passage vehicles) clients, family members, or other providers that are part of the client’s healthcare or educational team. This position will focus on providing school-based Recreational Therapy services.

Clinical team therapists follow the APIE (Assess, Plan, Implement, Evaluate) process:

• Assess individual/group needs & create individualized treatment plans.

• Plan & Implement safe and accessible recreation, sport and leisure-based interventions that support individual identity and functional skill development that support health outcomes.

• Evaluate and document outcomes of interventions and document progress on goals.

Clinical team therapists act as the primary liaison with clients, families, and related service providers in both community health systems and schools-based settings. 

• Attend Individual Education Plan or team meetings according to treatment setting.

• Manage aspects of contracts which may include billing, scheduling, sending documentation, or resource and referral information as required.

• Advocate for access to and meaningful engagement in, community-based leisure resources and infrastructure.

• Advance the understanding and role of therapeutic recreation services across a broad spectrum of stakeholders.

Clinical team therapists support the greater Northeast Passage mission and engagement within the University of New Hampshire through support of programs as needed across the organization. Clinical team therapists regularly:

• Collaborate across teams

• Supervise interns and practicum students.

• Maintain records and reports as required.

• Participate in organizational professional development, training, and research opportunities.

• Participate in individual supervision.

• Operate as a respectful and willing team player.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) through National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).

• Eligible for and maintains a Recreation Therapy license through NH Office of Allied Health.

• Valid and clean driver’s license with ability to meet DOT certification to drive passenger vans.

• Complete and maintain any additionally required certifications.

Desired Skills:

• Creative problem-solving skills.

• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

• 2 years of experience in Recreation Therapy.

• Experience in behavioral health and facilitation of health-related outcomes.

• Familiarity with Salesforce.

Compensation Pay Range:

$45,790.00 - $81,530.00
