This role will consist primarily of performing repairs and maintenance to the building and property, and the maintenance of mechanical equipment while providing direct supervision to the maintenance department.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assist trades and contractors;
  • Maintains contractor & supplier relationships, including vetting the performance and costs of contractors;
  • Assist senior facilities staff with maintenance work as required;
  • Property maintenance including dumping garbage and maintaining both indoor and outdoor areas as required;
  • Operate a forklift to dump garbage, move pallets, etc.;
  • Purchase and transport of building materials and maintenance supplies;
  • Perform maintenance on lab equipment i.e. changing air and water filters, cleaning scrubber nozzles, and greasing bearings;
  • Ability to complete minor unsupervised building repairs such as painting, carpentry, basic plumbing etc.;
  • Ability to complete unsupervised mechanical work such as change belts, bearings, shafts and basic equipment repairs etc.;
  • Ability to determine project requirements and call in trades or contractors as necessary;
  • Ability to supervise most facility and maintenance projects;
  • Determines required supplies and places orders;
  • Maintains all log books and maintenance records/schedules;
  • Responsible for the development of short-term and long-term maintenance planning;
  • May be required to read and interpret blue prints and structural drawings;
  • Maybe required to do maintenance in other ALS USA sites as required .
  • Ability to quickly respond to off-hours alarm calls;
  • Assists with the set-up and clean-up of all company hosted events;
  • Coordinates procurement of equipment, supplies and materials required to perform the duties of the facilities operations;
  • Observes established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office;
  • 4-5 years’ experience with performing building/mechanical/equipment repairs and maintenance or completion of formal training from a technical institution.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving history (abstract required);
  • Forklift certificate or experience will be considered an asset (full training will be provided);

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 7.5 hours per shift;
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds;
  • Extensive walking or movement, bending, kneeling, and working with machines;
  • Comfortable in environments with high noise levels;
  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.
