About Us

Abacus Insights is transforming how data works for health plans. Our mission is simple: make healthcare data usable, so the people responsible for care and cost decisions can act faster, with confidence.

We help health plans break down data silos to create a single, trusted data foundation. That foundation powers better decisions—so plans can improve outcomes, reduce waste, and deliver better experiences for members and providers alike. Backed by $100M from top investors, we’re tackling big challenges in an industry that’s ready for change. Our platform enables GenAI use cases by delivering clean, connected, and reliable healthcare data to support automation, prioritization, and decision workflows—and it’s why we are leading the way.

Our innovation begins with people. We are bold, curious, and collaborative—because the best ideas come from working together. We embrace the thoughtful use of AI and automation to drive innovation and efficiency, and we look for individuals who are curious and adaptable—those excited to leverage emerging technologies to enhance how we work—while keeping human insight, connection, and our clients at the center of every decision.

Ready to make an impact? Join us and let’s build the future together.

About the Role

Our Data Engineering team is looking for an Associate Data Engineer. In this role, you will partner with clients, implementation teams, and internal stakeholders to help deliver high-quality data extracts and distribution solutions from Abacus’s core data management platform, which is built on scalable, flexible, and resilient cloud architectures.

This is an early-career opportunity designed for recent graduates who are excited to build a foundation in data engineering, healthcare data, and client-facing delivery. As a trusted partner to the team, you will support client adoption of Abacus’s data management offerings while developing hands-on experience in data analysis, mapping, SQL, data quality, and cloud-based data services.

We welcome applications from new graduates, including candidates currently authorized to work in the United States under F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT). Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire.

Your day to day

  • Partner with clients, implementation teams, and internal stakeholders to understand data distribution requirements.
  • Perform data analysis, data profiling, and data mapping to support accurate client outputs.
  • Build and maintain data distribution extracts, SQL queries, and scripts with guidance from senior team members.
  • Support optimization of data extract scripts for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Validate outputs, investigate data issues, and contribute to root cause analysis when discrepancies arise.
  • Document requirements, workflows, data mappings, and technical decisions to support repeatable delivery.
  • Participate in client meetings, project discussions, and internal working sessions to learn requirements and communicate progress.
  • Collaborate with teammates to solve data challenges and contribute to a high-performing, inclusive, and supportive team culture.
  • Bring curiosity and ideas for process improvements, automation, and more efficient ways of working.

What you bring to the team

  • Recent graduate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent academic, project, internship, or professional experience relevant to data engineering, analytics, computer science, information systems, or a related technical field.
  • Strong SQL programming skills, with the ability to write queries, analyze data, and troubleshoot results.
  • Exposure to data analysis, data profiling, reporting, data mapping, or data validation through coursework, internships, projects, research, or prior work experience.
  • Interest in healthcare data and systems, including domains such as membership, claims, provider, or related healthcare data sets.
  • Ability to work with large or complex data sets and apply analytical thinking to solve business and technical problems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to perform root cause analysis on data, processes, and outputs.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage work in a fast-moving environment.
  • Curiosity, humility, and a willingness to learn new tools, technologies, and healthcare data concepts.
  • Desire to contribute individually while also collaborating closely with others.

What we would like to see, but not required

  • Experience or coursework involving AWS, Azure, Databricks, Spark, or other cloud-based data platforms.
  • Experience or exposure to Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse technologies.
  • Academic, internship, or project experience involving performance tuning, query optimization, ETL, or data pipeline development.

Compensation

Compensation for this role is based on experience, skills, and location, and includes base salary plus eligibility for performance bonuses and equity grants.

What you'll get in return

  • Unlimited paid time off: recharge when you need it.
  • Work from anywhere: flexibility to fit your life.
  • Comprehensive health coverage: multiple plan options to choose from.
  • Equity for every employee: share in our success.
  • Growth-focused environment: your development matters here.
  • Home office setup allowance: one-time support to get you started.
  • Monthly cell phone allowance: stay connected with ease.
