FCC Environmental Services is seeking an experienced 3rd Shift Supervisor - MRF Maintenance Technician to oversee the efficient day-to-day maintenance and operation of equipment within our Material Recovery Facility (MRF). This position is responsible for leading maintenance activities, managing preventive maintenance programs, minimizing equipment downtime, and ensuring maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company standards.

The Shift Supervisor will lead maintenance personnel and coordinate with operations, vendors, and suppliers to ensure processing equipment remains reliable and operational. This role requires strong mechanical knowledge and experience working with industrial equipment, conveyors, motors, electrical/PLC systems, balers, compactors, and other MRF processing equipment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance (PM) program for MRF processing equipment.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and manage daily, weekly, and long-term maintenance activities.
  • Oversee the maintenance and operation of engines, motors, tools, conveyor systems, balers, compactors, and production machinery.
  • Perform and/or direct preventive maintenance and repairs in accordance with operations manuals, manufacturer instructions, engineering specifications, and company standards.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and equipment malfunctions and identify problems by observing machinery and mechanical devices while in operation.
  • Lead and manage full-time, temporary, and contract maintenance personnel.
  • Assign work, monitor performance, provide direction, and ensure maintenance activities are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and service contracts with outside vendors and contractors.
  • Purchase and negotiate cost-effective tools, parts, equipment, and maintenance/repair services from suppliers.
  • Reduce and prevent equipment downtime by leading maintenance personnel in routine preventive maintenance practices and monitoring adherence to PM schedules.
  • Maintain accurate inventories of equipment, parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Monitor inventory levels, anticipate maintenance needs, place and expedite orders, and verify receipt of parts and supplies.
  • Prepare mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing maintenance information, equipment performance, downtime, and trends.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, irregularities, and ongoing needs to maintain continuity across shifts and work teams.
  • Communicate maintenance issues and operational needs effectively with management, operations, and other departments.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are performed in a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety procedures, company policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts to increase equipment reliability, productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Experience and Competencies

  • Experience supervising or leading maintenance personnel in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working with Conveyor systems, Motors and engines, Electrical systems and PLCs, Balers and compactors, Industrial processing equipment, Hydraulic and mechanical systems
  • Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing, recycling, waste management, or industrial environment.
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively leading a team.
  • Prompt, professional, and dependable demeanor.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, or varying shifts as operational needs require.
