Registered Physical Therapist – Inpatient

 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: TYPICAL DUTIES:
The duties listed have been broken into the categories of “Essential” and “Non-Essential” functions for the purpose of evaluating an individual with a disability’s qualifications for the position.  This section of the job description identifies all duties important in accomplishing the purpose of this position.
        Essential Functions:
        1).   Assess and implement appropriate treatment plans according to patient diagnosis and status and in accordance of the Physical Therapy Code of Ethics.
        2).   Completes documentation (e.g., initial evaluation, daily flow sheets, weekly progress notes, discharge summaries and statistics) on a timely basis.  Completes letters of justification for Durable Medical Equipment.
        3).   Delegate appropriate duties to physical therapy assistants, aides and supportive personnel.
        4).   Coordinate and organize a full treatment caseload.
        5).   Attends and reports at rehabilitation team conferences (RTC), treating team conferences (TTC) and family team conferences (FTC).
        6).   Seek to provide or enhance staff, patient and family education through continuing education courses/seminars and review of current relevant literature.
7).           Adheres to the policies adopted by the hospital.

                8).           Complies with all hospital safety and health regulations.

                9).           Treats patients, their families, visitors, and other staff members with respect, courtesy
and compassion.

                10).        Demonstrates teamwork by possessing a considerate, friendly, and constructive
attitude, and by the ability to work openly and honestly with other staff members with flexibility, support and cooperation.

                11).        Sets goals and demonstrates actions toward self-improvements.

                12).        Utilizes appropriate means of communication.

               

13).        Exhibits responsible work behaviors by demonstrating reliability, punctuality,
and dependability.

                14).        Wears clothing appropriate for the work being performed.

                15).        Performs assigned tasks efficiently.

                16).        Maintains work place and work area cleanliness, and orderliness.

                17).        Refrains from behavior or conduct deemed offensive, or undesirable, or which is
subject to disciplinary action.

                18).        Reflects positive image to the community.

                19).        Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the impact of disability upon an
individual’s, as well as families’ physical, emotional, social, economic and vocational status, taking into consideration age-related issues, and developmental levels over the life span (i.e., the adolescents’ need to develop their own identity, and cope with life changes’; and their geriatrics’ need to maintain their integrity and independence, and adjust to the physiological aspects of aging), and meets competency requirements for the population served (adolescents through geriatric), as applicable to the job description.

        Non-Essential Functions:
        1).   Assists with continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities as designated by supervisor.
        2).   Coordinate/assist with prosthetic and/or seating clinic.  
        3).   Supervise affiliating students and participate in research if appropriate.
        4).   Insure safety/maintenance of equipment and work areas.

PREREQUISITES:
        1).   Bachelor of Science /master’s of science degree in physical therapy from an APTA accredited college or university.
        2).   Current licensure by the Board of Allied Health Professionals, Commonwealth of Massachusetts or application for the same.
        3).   APTA in Massachusetts and/or New Hampshire chapter of APTA membership preferred.
        4).   Certification in BLS of Adult, Child and Infant.
        5).   Demonstrated pursuit on continuing education courses relative to the field of physical therapy.
        6).   Knowledge, experience, and competency in dealing with adult rehabilitation and geriatric age group.      
        7).   Knowledge of growth and development across the life span.
