Job Title: Clinical Pharmacist Specialist - Oncology

Location: Unity Hospital

Department: Inpatient Pharmacy

Hours Per Week: Full-time

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8a-4:30p

Summary
The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist provides clinical pharmacy services in a professional and competent manner to ensure rational and appropriate drug therapy throughout the Health System.

Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Services:

  • Possesses a broad scope and depth of pharmacotherapy knowledge and clinical skills. Independently responsible for complex decision-making, such as drug therapy selection
  • Works in collaboration with others across the Health System, providing patient care and medication consultation services.
  • Able to develop, recommend, and monitor therapeutic plans.
  • Functions with other Health Care Providers on bed-to-bed patient care rounds.
  • Functions on Health System multidisciplinary teams in the development of protocols, order sets, and critical pathways to optimize patient care.
  • Develop, conduct, and participate in drug quality programs, drug usage evaluations, and research. Present findings at appropriate local or national professional meetings.
  • Able to respond to complex drug information requests using literature searching expertise. Evaluate and summarize primary literature and incorporate the information into formulary reviews and patient care decisions.
  • Works with pharmacy management and specialty departments to implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations (for example: state and federal law, accrediting bodies and National Patient Safety Goals).
  • Detect, prevent, monitor, document, and report adverse drug events and medication errors.
  • Respond to patient care urgencies/emergencies within your area of expertise.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Education:

  • Take a leadership role in teaching prescribers, pharmacists, and/or nursing staff throughout the Health Care System through formal teaching programs and informal meetings.
  • Precept Pharmacy Interns and Residents as appropriate.
  • Committed to continual learning of new knowledge and the enhancement of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Attend at least 1 national professional meeting annually.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of residency

OR

  • Fellowship training

OR

  • Board certification through the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties.
  • The employee may be working towards board certification as part of a timeline mutually agreed upon by the employee and supervisor.


Required Licensure/Certification Skills:

  • Licensure as a Pharmacist in New York State required.

  • Completion of residency or fellowship training

OR

  • Board certification through the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Light - Clinical - Light clinical roles involve frequent standing and walking, with occasional lifting of light objects (≤20 lbs.) and routine reaching, grasping, and fine manipulation for tasks such as patient care, laboratory work, or specimen processing. Staff rely on strong visual and auditory acuity to accurately observe specimens, read instrumentation, monitor patients, respond to alarms, and communicate effectively with care teams. Cognitive demands include multitasking, prioritizing clinical and laboratory workflows, and coordinating with interdisciplinary teams. Emotional resilience is necessary due to frequent interruptions, shifting priorities, and the need for precise and compassionate interaction with patients and colleagues. Environmental exposures may include infectious materials, biological specimens, cleaning agents, sharps, chemical reagents, and wet surfaces. PPE use, TB testing, and schedule flexibility are commonly required.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
