Senior Architect – Salesforce Release Engineering (Dev Ops)
Position Summary
The Senior Architect is responsible for the architecture, design, optimization, and continuous improvement of Salesforce release engineering and DevOps capabilities. This role enables delivery teams to release changes safely, consistently, efficiently, and with appropriate quality controls.
The Senior Architect owns the technical design of the Salesforce delivery pipeline and works across architecture, engineering, testing, security, operations, and delivery teams to improve automation, reliability, traceability, and release performance. The role also leads the technical remediation of complex pipeline, environment, deployment, and release-management challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the architecture for Salesforce DevOps, CI/CD, testing integration, deployment automation, and release engineering.
- Design scalable and repeatable delivery pipelines that support multiple teams, applications, environments, and release schedules.
- Establish technical standards and patterns for source control, branching, merging, metadata management, packaging, deployment, and rollback.
- Integrate automated testing, code quality, security validation, and other quality gates into the delivery pipeline.
- Partner with testing teams to improve how unit, integration, regression, and other automated tests support release confidence.
- Optimize pipeline performance, reliability, usability, observability, and maintainability.
- Diagnose and remediate complex pipeline failures, deployment conflicts, environment inconsistencies, test failures, and release bottlenecks.
- Define environment-management, refresh, configuration, access, and readiness practices that support predictable delivery.
- Establish release traceability, auditability, approval controls, and production deployment safeguards.
- Support delivery teams in decomposing changes into deployable increments and sequencing technically dependent releases.
- Provide architecture guidance for complex deployments, data changes, integration releases, platform upgrades, and multi-team release coordination.
- Monitor pipeline health and use metrics to improve deployment frequency, lead time, failure rate, recovery time, and engineering productivity.
- Identify manual processes and introduce automation where it improves reliability, quality, or delivery speed.
- Evaluate emerging Salesforce DevOps capabilities and recommend improvements aligned with enterprise architecture and security standards.
- Partner with platform, security, engineering, and operations teams to address shared release risks and dependencies.
- Document standards, reusable pipeline patterns, troubleshooting guidance, and operational procedures.
- Coach Technical Leads and developers on effective DevOps, testing, source-control, and release-engineering practices.
- Escalate material platform, security, or architecture concerns to the Principal Architect and appropriate governance forums.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Eight or more years of enterprise technology experience, including substantial experience with Salesforce engineering and DevOps.
- Demonstrated experience designing and supporting enterprise CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
- Strong knowledge of Salesforce metadata, development lifecycle, environment management, testing, deployment, and release practices.
- Experience with source control, branching strategies, build automation, quality gates, and release traceability.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across pipelines, deployments, test automation, environments, and platform dependencies.
- Experience supporting multiple delivery teams in a complex enterprise environment.
- Understanding of security, access control, auditability, and compliance requirements within DevOps processes.
- Strong documentation, communication, and cross-team facilitation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Salesforce architect-level, development, or DevOps-related certifications.
- Experience with enterprise Salesforce DevOps and release-management platforms.
- Experience implementing DevSecOps controls and automated security validation.
- Experience using engineering metrics to drive pipeline and delivery improvement.
- Experience supporting large-scale, multi-org, or globally distributed Salesforce delivery environments.
