Your part in the Metro Hospitals 

The Metro Maintenance and Engineering Manager leads maintenance, engineering and asset management functions across our two Metro hospitals, ensuring infrastructure, facilities and critical systems are safe, compliant and fit for purpose. The role provides strategic direction for capital planning, infrastructure projects and operational service delivery to support the organisation's healthcare objectives.

  • Lead maintenance and engineering services across the hospital portfolio to ensure efficient, customer-focused service delivery.
  • Ensure maintenance frameworks and maintenance programs are effective, compliant and aligned with operational requirements.
  • Maintain operational readiness of critical infrastructure and essential services, including emergency response capability.
  • Maintain and continuously improve systems, processes and governance frameworks that support reliable and consistent service delivery.
  • Ensure that the respective Engineering teams have sufficient capability to meet hospital needs.
  • Ensure that the activities of Engineering including contractors and tradesmen comply fully with Workplace Health & Safety Standards and other relevant standards and legislation.
  • Manage all associated risks falling under the engineering management portfolio, including but not limited to building, infrastructure, plant, equipment, grounds and gardens.

What makes a difference for us? 

  • Tertiary qualifications such as facilities management, engineering or project management.   (may be supplemented by a trade certificate)
  • Membership of the Institute of Hospital Engineering Australia (or willing to obtain)
  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in acute healthcare facilities management or management of acute healthcare construction projects on time, within budget and to high quality standards.
  • Experience in mechanical and electrical engineering and the operation and maintenance of all steam, air conditioning, electrical, gas, air and other plant and equipment usually found in a large hospital.
  • A working knowledge of the various Australian Standards, specifications and codes applicable to Private Hospitals.
  • A working knowledge of the Statutory Acts, Regulations and By-Laws applicable to the engineering and maintenance services of a Hospital
  • Relevant experience in the successful management of project and design teams and stakeholders
  • Negotiation skills and business acumen capable of delivering financially responsible and practical outcomes.
  • Proven capacity to manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes in a customer focussed environment.
  • Ability to deliver a consistently professional customer and/or stakeholder focussed service to all stakeholders, customers and management.
  • Experience in developing and implementing planned maintenance programs, and processes to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Sound experience in the preparation of budgets, cost control and management of financial expenditure in accordance with annual goals.
  • Sound experience in the management and direction of staff and tradespersons undertaking repair/maintenance work.
  • Desirable to have working knowledge of Hospital and health care property sectors.
  • Desirable to have substantial relevant experience in a facilities management or construction industry discipline
  • Willingness to obtain required vaccinations in line with hospitals infection control requirements, as well as undergo national criminal history check
