About you:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will play a key role in supporting, maintaining and improving the infrastructure services we deliver to our internal and external customers around the globe as part of our 24X7 Global Operations Centre based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Platform Engineer is responsible for ensuring our services remains available, secure, cost effective whilst performing to design. This role is required to administer, support, maintain our global infrastructure working autonomously and collaboratively with our local and global team members.
Day-to-day, you will:
VMware Infrastructure Administration:
- Administer and maintain VMware vSphere environments including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and associated components.
- Manage virtual machine (VM) lifecycle activities including provisioning, configuration, migration, and decommissioning.
- Monitor the performance and health of the virtualisation platform and proactively address capacity and availability concerns.
- Manage and maintain VMware NSX-T for software-defined networking, including logical switches, routers, and distributed firewalls.
- Administer VMware Aria Operations (formerly vRealize Operations) for monitoring and alerting across the virtual estate.
Patching & Updates:
- Plan and apply ESXi, vCenter, and NSX-T patches and upgrades in line with the change management process.
- Maintain an up-to-date software inventory and track versions against the latest vendor releases.
- Monitor and renew SSL certificates for VMware components including vCenter, NSX-T, and Aria platforms.
- Coordinate certificate renewals with the internal CA and relevant teams ahead of expiry dates.
- Coordinate with the wider Platform team to schedule patching activities during agreed maintenance windows.
Storage & Networking:
- Manage SAN/NAS storage integration with the VMware environment, including NetApp, Pure storage and other storage platforms.
- Configure and maintain vSAN, datastore provisioning, and storage policies.
- Support network configuration within the virtual environment, including vSwitches, port groups, and VLANs.
Request, Incident, Problem & Change Management (ITIL Framework):
- Respond to and resolve platform incidents within defined SLA targets, escalating to vendors (e.g. Broadcom/VMware support) where required.
- Raise and execute change requests for platform activities in line with the organisation's change management process.
- Provide accurate and timely shift handover notes to ensure continuity across 24x7 operations.
- Actively provide technical resolution for the request, incident, and problem tickets with relevant change request.
- Effectively manage assigned tickets in the support group queue with timely and clear updates.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate documentation including platform runbooks, architecture diagrams, and configuration records.
- Produce regular platform health and performance reports for stakeholders and management.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of platform processes, standards, and tooling.
- Take personal accountability for our products so that they remain available, secure, reliable and provide an excellent customer experience.
- Communicate with key stakeholders on planned changes.
Your skills and experiences might also include:
- Hands-on technical support experience in a VMware platform engineering or infrastructure operations role.
- Strong working knowledge of VMware vSphere (ESXi 7.x/8.x/9.x), vCenter Server, and VM management.
- Experience with VMware NSX-T for software-defined networking.
- Familiarity with VMware Aria Operations (vROps) and Aria for Networks (vRNI) for monitoring and visibility.
- Experience with storage platforms such as NetApp SAN/NAS and integration with VMware environments.
- Knowledge of Cisco UCS or similar server hardware used in virtualisation deployments is an advantage.
- Scripting or automation experience (PowerCLI, Python, Ansible) is an advantage.
- Proficiency with enterprise backup solutions like Veeam, Zerto, Dell EMC Avamar/Data Domain, and Pure snapshot Replication. Require hands-on experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting backup infrastructure platforms.
- Strong server, storage, backup infrastructure, and networking infrastructure experience.
- Understanding of storage architectures including SAN, NAS, DAS, and cloud storage. Knowledge of deduplication,
- compression, and replication technologies is essential.
- Strong command of Windows Server, Linux/Unix systems, and virtualized environments (VMware, Hyper-V, or cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Troubleshooting and problem solving in relate to backup and restore request.
- Scripting & Automation: Ability to write scripts in PowerShell, Python, Bash, or Perl to automate backup jobs, monitoring, and reporting tasks.
- Strong IP/Networking skills (Good understanding of TCP /IP and ISO Model, troubleshooting tools).
- VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualisation (VCP-DCV) is strongly preferred.
- Additional certifications are an advantage: VMware NSX (VCP-NV), ITIL Foundation, or equivalent.
- Restoring VM’s/databases from backups as required.
- Proven track record in ability to work to agreed targets and SLAs.
NOTE: This is a 14-day month shift rotation role. You will be required to work on a rotation shift from the office 8am/8pm and 8pm/8am on a rotating basis with the flexibility to work from home as needed.
