This opportunity entails being responsible for overall field management of HNTB's contract, administration, and coordination on projects of a diverse and complex nature. Monitors activities of assigned staff for conformance with contractual requirements. Provides technical leadership for complex or unique assignments. Reviews drawings, specifications, and installation procedures for constructability. May recommend changes to design. Represents projects at meetings and conferences. Typically responsible for running projects up to $10M in construction value and key role in mini-mega project pursuits.
What You'll Do:
- Responsible for development of the project scope and fee quotation and assists in the preparation of technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
- Coordinates project activities establishes priorities and staff to jobs. Prepares Summary Inspection Report of Daily activities. Monitors contractor progress and compares with the reviewed progress schedule. Resolves technical field issues, and coordinates with Architects and Engineers for timely and accurate responses to requests for information.
- Oversees project controls including checking contractors controls and coordinating schedules, reviews constructors schedule.
- Reviews submittals for conformance to plans and specifications. Develops strategies with the contractor to create submittal packages that conform to schedule requirements.
- Implements the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project. Leads the development and the execution of the project management plan. Supervises and mentors team to overall project objectives. Identifies and resolves non-compliant work.
- Provides interpretation and enforcement of contract plans and specifications. Develops strategies with the contractor to create submittal packages that conform to schedule requirements.
- Confirms change order requests, develops estimates, negotiates costs, and writes change orders.
- Provides cost control on projects and quality control within discipline.
- Partners with Client Service Leaders and pursuit champions to assist with business development, building client relationships, and pursuit efforts for strategic and mini-mega projects in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Works with the project team and marketing resources to prepare appropriate proposal and presentation materials. Leads proposal development and interview presentations for strategic and mini-mega projects to the client as well as general presentations within the industry and community.
- May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development, and retention of construction staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession,
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor's Degree Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience.
- All jurisdictional certificates.
What You'll Bring:
- Winning, contracting, and successfully delivering 4for4 (on-time, on-budget, quality, client satisfaction) on multi-disciplined projects. Identifying and handling risk and change management with guidance from more experienced staff.
- Provide oversight for bridge replacement and/or rehabilitation on a major highway corridor.
- Lead and manage a team of construction professionals, inspectors, and specialty consultants, to ensure effective project execution.
- Mentor, coach, and develop staff while cultivating a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and professional growth.
- Coordinate construction activities across concurrent contracts to maintain continuity of operations, minimize impacts to the traveling public, and achieve overall program objectives.
- Serve as the primary field representative, facilitating communication and collaboration.
- Apply sound engineering judgment to evaluate field conditions, identify emerging risks, and develop practical solutions that support project goals and minimize schedule impacts.
- Identify changing field conditions early and proactively work with the team to develop practical solutions.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for clients, fostering strong relationships and ensuring successful project outcomes.
- Demonstrate flexibility to support project needs, including night, weekend, and off-hour operations as required.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of MaineDOT and Maine Turnpike Authority standards, specifications, procedures, and construction requirements.
- Provide technical expertise in:
- Bridge construction, staged erection, and rehabilitation
- Traffic control, maintenance of traffic (MOT), and work zone management
- Embankment preload/surcharge operations and settlement monitoring
- Deep foundations, earthwork, and geotechnical coordination
- Complex bridge and highway construction sequencing
What We Prefer:
- Master's degree in Engineering.
- 10 Years of relevant experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- Certifications
- NETTCP Concrete Inspector
- NETTCP Paving Inspector
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1
- MaineDEP Erosion and Sedimentation Control
- OSHA 10 and/or 30 Hour
- Work Zone Traffic Control

The approximate pay range for Maine is $126,950.84 - $198,564.14. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position based on all selected locations within the state at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state..
