WHO WE ARE 
The Office of the County Attorney provides legal advice and representation to all County departments, agencies, instrumentalities, boards, and commissions, including the County Council, and all their employees. A full description of the Office’s work is available here. https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/cat/index.html The Office also provides legal defense for cases involving Montgomery County and other governmental entities which participate in the Montgomery County Self-Insurance Program (including the Board of Education for Montgomery County, Montgomery College, and the Housing Opportunities Commission) and all their employees. 

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The County Attorney’s Office is looking for a paralegal specialist who can perform a variety of legal and administrative duties, including supporting the County Attorney and Deputy County Attorney, within the Office. Duties include performing Contract Administrator duties related to the County Code publication contract; providing administrative support to the County Attorney and Deputy County Attorney; and supervision of legal secretaries.The duties performed by the Paralegal Specialist involve:

• creating and/or proofreading and providing feedback to attorney staff regarding County legislation (bills, ordinances and regulations);
• Interaction/coordination as the Contract Administrator with the County’s vendor to ensure County legislation, new County Attorney Opinions, the County Charter and appropriate State legislation get updated correctly in the Montgomery County Code, Zoning Ordinance, and COMCOR when effective;
• providing copies of legislation to the appropriate State departments yearly;
• proofreading documents prior to the County Attorney’s or Deputy County Attorney’s review and/or signature; 
• coordinating meetings and appointments using Outlook calendars for in-person or Teams meetings with County staff and/or outside participants;
• being administrative liaison between the Office of the County Attorney and County Council;
• supervision of legal secretaries, including creating and finalizing performance plans, approving leave requests, coordinating adequate secretary availability, both in the office and while teleworking, and providing back-up coverage when needed; and  
• performing other duties as required/needed. Education:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. 
Experience:  Three (3) years of experience as a paralegal. 
Substitution/Equivalency:  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.  
License:  None.

• knowledge of legal terminology and research processes;   
• ability to multitask while staying organized, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines; 
• ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and residents; 
• ability to learn new tasks quickly;  
• excellent proofreading skills.
