As the Six Sigma Thermal Safety Investigator, you will investigate the performance of Ford vehicles, components, or systems in real world thermal accidents.

  • Must be able to communicate with the Office of General Counsel to discuss technical theories, product design allegation and technical evidence.
  • Must be able to conduct forensics work evidence and be comfortable testifying on a deposition or trial.
  • Define and direct the fabrication of supporting engineering trial presentation materials and exhibits.
  • Work with the OGC and outside attorneys and consultants to serve as the Company Representative during trial by observing the court proceeding, discuss opportunities with counsel, and providing testimony as required.

Applicants must possess a strong interest in learning and technical development. During the course of this assignment, applicants will be exposed to 6-Sigma tools and methods, several different commodity components, systems, software and Engineering groups, data analytics and Ford’s vast array of technology resources.

Applicants will be required to interface with teams that include subject matter experts allowing opportunities to expand their knowledge in these areas to learn the physics of how the systems and components work to support their project problem solving.

Workload will consist of leading cross functional groups to scope challenges and drive to resolution in a timely manner. Projects frequently target high profile products, technology, and launches as well as high profile quality issues within the VHE organization. The position requires presentation of status and findings allowing diverse management exposure.

In this position...

  • Mentor Product Development teams in successful completion of high leverage DMIAC/DCOV projects throughout VHE and the systems interactions throughout the company. This will entail all functional groups within the company.
  • Lead and support to improve Safety metrics.
  • Lead and support new technology, product design and problem solving cross-functional teams to leverage the DCOV/DFSS process in failure mode avoidance and robust design methods.
  • Provide the Vehicle Hardware Engineering (VHE) organization statistical, data analytics and problem solving support including assisting with 6-Sigma methodology training.

What you'll do...

  • Deliver project presentations to senior management on 6-Sigma project team’s progress, accomplishments, conclusions, and lessons learned.
  • Work with GDI&A (Global Data Insights and Analytics) in refining tools including MWATS (Mobility and Warranty Trend Spotter) and connected vehicle data.
  • Drive Six Sigma Certifications throughout VHE.

You'll have...

  • BS degree in Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Product Design or Manufacturing Engineering with manufacturing processes, component/system development design, emerging technology development or calibration processes knowledge.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage several unique tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to develop clear working level documents and management presentations as well as present from working level documents.
  • Ability to comfortably present to the senior management team.
  • Proficiency with using Microsoft Office applications, Minitab, Qlik Sense and Alteryx computer software preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to both Ford and supplier domestic and foreign locations.
  • This position will also require vehicle fire investigation work; fire investigation training will be provided.

Other Information: Must be comfortable working independently and travel is required for inspections, deposition, and trial testimony as an investigator or technical representative of the Company. Travel is typically 2-4 trips per month (usually 1-2 nights each) though it can occasionally require 1-2 week support for trials.

  • Engineering Master’s Degree.
  • 6-Sigma Master Black Belt trained preferred but not required. If not a Certified 6-Sigma Master Black Belt VHE will facilitate achieving Master Black Belt certification within 1 year.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
