Description

The Lead CARE Counselor helps provide a safe, engaging, and positive environment for school-age children participating in Before/After School and Track Out CARE programs. This position works directly with participants, provides leadership to other counselors, assists with daily program operations, and helps ensure activities, supervision, and safety expectations are consistently met.

Essential Duties

  • Provide leadership and guidance to CARE Counselors during daily program operations.
  • Actively supervise and engage with children during activities, games, outdoor play, field trips, and transitions.
  • Lead and assist with age-appropriate recreational, educational, and enrichment activities.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, head counts, and participant accountability.
  • Promote positive behavior and support the social and emotional development of participants.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized program environment.
  • Communicate professionally with participants, families, staff, and school personnel.
  • Drive program vehicles and assist with participant transportation as assigned.
  • Report participant, staff, behavioral, and safety concerns to the CARE Coordinator or Recreation Program Specialist.
  • Follow all CARE and Town policies, procedures, and safety expectations.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 20 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to drive a 15-passenger van or other program vehicle.
  • Previous experience working with school-age children; at least one year preferred.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable, responsible, flexible, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to actively participate in games, sports, outdoor activities, and other recreational programs.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • First Aid/CPR certified within 3 months of employment
