Description
We are seeking an Application Engineer to join our growing engineering team based at our Cambridge office. You will support the development, integration, calibration, validation, and customer deployment of Multimatic's automotive electronic control systems. Working closely with software, controls, systems, hardware, and customer engineering teams, you will play a key role in ensuring our products meet customer expectations and vehicle-level performance targets.
You will be joining a highly capable team split between the UK and Canada and will have the opportunity to work directly with customers throughout the product development lifecycle from concept and prototype development through production launch and field support.

Key Areas of Responsibility
- Support customer integration of Multimatic electronic control systems, including suspension, active aero, and power closure products.
- Work closely with software, controls, systems, and hardware engineering teams to ensure successful vehicle-level integration.
- Perform vehicle commissioning, calibration, validation, and troubleshooting activities.
- Analyse vehicle and system data to identify issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop test plans and execute system verification and validation activities, including vehicle, bench, HIL, SIL, and functional testing where applicable.
- Investigate and resolve software, controls, communication network, and system integration issues.
- Support customer demonstrations, prototype evaluations, and application development activities.
- Generate engineering reports documenting test results, root-cause analysis, and recommended improvements.
- Represent Multimatic professionally during customer meetings and on-site support activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve product performance, development processes, tools, and test methods.
- Support production launch, field investigations, and customer service activities as required.
Ideal Experience
- University degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Control Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of automotive vehicle architectures and ECU-based control systems.
- Experience with vehicle communication networks including CAN, LIN, CAN FD, and Ethernet.
- Experience using Vector tools such as CANoe, CANalyzer, CANape, or equivalent.
- Experience analyzing and interpreting vehicle data logs.
- Knowledge of MATLAB, Simulink, and model-based development techniques.
- Understanding of embedded software and controls algorithm implementation.
- Experience troubleshooting software, controls, or electrical integration issues.
- Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple activities with minimal supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to travel and provide on-site customer support as required.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with automotive suspension, vehicle dynamics, active aero, power closure, or mechatronic systems.
- Knowledge of AUTOSAR architecture and automotive software development processes.
- Experience with calibration and parameter tuning activities.
- Understanding of ISO 26262 functional safety processes.
- Experience with HIL, SIL, MIL, and vehicle testing methodologies.
- Knowledge of UDS diagnostics, flashing, and ECU configuration processes.
- Familiarity with ASPICE or similar automotive development standards.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB.
- Working knowledge of embedded C software development.
- Hands-on vehicle testing and instrumentation experience.
