Overall Purpose of the Job
Project Manager role will work within the Finance Systems Project Team to work with diverse stakeholders to drive change and automation across Finance. The Project Manager will be responsible for planning, executing and finalizing projects according to timelines and within budget. They will be working to support successful project delivery of a number of Finance initiatives. They will ensure that requirements, processes and deliverables are clearly documented, understood and coordinated by the project delivery team, including Finance Business, IT Owners and Business Enterprise Service Managers.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Project Management
Lead: Lead the end-to-end delivery of finance related projects and programs, ensuring alignment with business strategy, operational objectives and finance priorities.
Develop: Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, milestones, resource plans across workstreams
Document: Requirements, As-Is and To-Be processes, business case including financial analysis, benefits realization, scope, objectives, deliverables, dependencies and success measures
Planning: Leads planning for complex programs/projects across multiple streams, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and risk mitigation.
Scoping: Oversees and approves project scope to ensure it is realistic, achievable, and aligned with organizational objectives.
Scheduling: Oversees schedule management, ensuring resource availability and alignment with portfolio-level planning.
Prioritization: Establishes prioritization mechanisms to balance competing demands across projects or workstreams.
Alignment with Frameworks: Advises on framework selection (Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid), ensuring it meets project and organizational needs.
Business Case Development: Creation of Business Case including financials ready for approval
Delivery: Apply appropriate project delivery methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid approaches, to meet project and business requirements.
Risk Management
Risk Identification: Oversees risk identification processes for complex or high-impact projects, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
Risk Assessment: Evaluates aggregated risks across multiple projects, considering broader organizational implications.
Risk Mitigation: Advises on mitigation strategies and approves significant risk responses to ensure they are robust and aligned with business objectives.
Monitoring & Reporting: Reviews risk management practices to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance across projects.
Project Finance
Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets, forecasts, and financial plans throughout the project lifecycle.
Track project expenditure, identify variances, and implement corrective actions to ensure effective cost control and budget adherence.
Provide regular financial reporting, analysis, and insights to project sponsors and senior leadership.
Establish and maintain appropriate financial governance controls, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, audit requirements, and financial management standards.
Support benefits realization tracking and post-implementation reviews to validate project value and outcomes
Governance and Compliance
Compliance Management: Develops strategies ensuring compliance across projects.
Establish and maintain project governance frameworks, ensuring effective oversight, accountability, and decision-making.
Prepare and facilitate Steering Committee, Executive Leadership, and Board-level reporting, presentations, and status updates.
Coordinate governance forums, document key decisions, actions, risks, and outcomes, and ensure timely follow-up and execution.
Develop and maintain project documentation, including project charters, business cases, governance artefacts, status reports, RAID logs, and implementation plans.
Monitor project performance and provide meaningful reporting and strategic insights to stakeholders and senior management.
Decision Making: Leads decision-making for projects, advises on complex decisions, and ensures alignment with business outcomes.
Stakeholder and Change Management: Develops strategies and leads stakeholder engagement, management, ensuring effective communication throughout the project delivery. Document change impact assessment and drive adoption of the new process.
Resource Management: Advises on resource management best practices, resolves conflicts, optimizes allocation, and trains team members
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Information Systems, or a related field.
8+ years of project management experience, ideally in Finance transformation, systems, or automation projects.
Proven experience managing end-to-end project delivery, including scope, budget, timelines, risks, and governance.
Strong knowledge of Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery methodologies.
Experience in business case development, process improvement, and requirements documentation.
Strong stakeholder management, communication, and change management skills.
Ability to manage project finances, reporting, and benefits realization.
PMP, PRINCE2, Agile, or equivalent project management certification preferred.
