Purpose and Impact:
The Transport Supervisor is responsible for managing the operations and personnel of the transportation section within the Transport and Logistics Department. This includes supervising a team of Transport Specialists across various shifts, ensuring efficient transportation services, and overseeing the safe and compliant loading, unloading, and movement of goods and personnel to meet the organisation’s operational demands. The role requires providing after-hours coordination for shift coverage during absences or disruptions to Site activities.
The Transport Supervisor is responsible for planning and coordinating transport resources, including bus services, vehicle availability, fleet compliance, and support for special events, ensuring transport operations meet operational requirements. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with all Site environmental, health, and safety requirements, as well as maintaining records and ensuring valid licenses and endorsements for all relevant personnel and equipment.
Additionally, the Transport Supervisor will represent the organisation’s ethical standards and goals while liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including government employees, contractors, and vendors. The position may require availability outside regular working hours to respond to changes in staff availability, special events, or unforeseen circumstances.
Work Schedule:
Day shift – 5 days per week, 8 hours per day
Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise a team of Transport Specialists across day and shift operations, including coordinating staffing requirements and ensuring continuity of transport services during personnel absences or operational disruptions.
- Develop and manage bus rosters to ensure all scheduled transport services are adequately resourced, including public holidays and other operational requirements.
- Coordination of transport requirements for special events including VIP visits.
- Ensure transport activities, including the preparation and movement of loads, are conducted in accordance with applicable legislative and organisational requirements.
- Ensure fleet inspections, maintenance activities and defect reporting processes are completed in accordance with organisational requirements.
- Ensure corrective action is taken to address reported defect and faults.
- Ensure compliance with Site Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) requirements.
- Promote and demonstrate Amentum's Values, Ethics and Code of Conduct.
- Maintain records of required licences, endorsements and competencies for Transport personnel, ensuring currency is maintained and identifying training or upskilling requirements where necessary.
- Ensure fleet presentation, servicing, registration and insurance requirements are maintained in accordance with organisational standards.
- Manage vehicle compliance records, ensuring registrations, insurance policies and associated documentation remain current and auditable.
- Maintain health and safety within the workplace by promoting safety awareness initiatives, discussions and trainings, encouraging a safety focused culture and participating and reviewing risk assessments for those under their supervision.
- Any other reasonable duties as requested.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
- This position is predominantly desk-based and involves prolonged periods of sitting while undertaking administrative and coordination duties. The role requires regular use of verbal and written communication skills, active listening, a high level of mental alertness, and the ability to work effectively under deadlines while managing competing priorities.
- Operational support may be required from time to time, including standing, walking, kneeling, and the safe manual handling of items weighing up to 15 kg.
Minimum Essential:
- Australian Citizenship.
- Thorough understanding of Australian transport and logistics regulations, including licensing, roadworthiness, and driver fatigue management.
Desirable:
- Certificate in Logistics/Transport Operations
Security Clearance Required:
It is a condition of employment that employees obtain and retain the appropriate level of security clearance and medical clearance applicable to each role. The employee will be required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TSPV) Department of Defence (Australian)
Minimum Years of Experience:
- Experience supervising transport operations.
- Leadership and people management experience.
- Knowledge of Australian transport legislation and compliance requirements
