CIO, NCC
This role leads NNC investment strategy and portfolio management across global agriculture and timberland assets (Nuveen Natural Capital). The CIO will be responsible for delivering superior risk-adjusted returns while advancing sustainable land management practices across NNC institutional investment platform.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Establish and execute the investment philosophy, driving strategic asset allocation decisions across agriculture and timberland holdings spanning multiple continents and climate zones. This includes developing comprehensive investment frameworks that balance financial performance with environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
Oversee the active management and continuous optimization of our diversified portfolio, implementing strategies to enhance returns through operational improvements, strategic acquisitions and dispositions, and value-add management initiatives. This requires sophisticated analysis of biological assets, crop diversification strategies, timber rotation optimization, and land conversion opportunities. Ensure portfolio construction aligns with institutional investor mandates while managing concentration risk across geographies, crop types, and forest species.
Chair or co-chair the Investment Committee, presenting comprehensive investment recommendations with rigorous due diligence and risk assessment. Establish governance frameworks for investment decisions, ensuring consistency in underwriting standards, valuation methodologies, and performance attribution.
Serve as a primary point of contact for institutional investors, articulating investment strategy, portfolio performance, and market outlook with clarity and conviction. This includes leading investor meetings, participating in fundraising initiatives, and representing the firm at industry conferences and forums. Collaborate with the Head of Nuveen Natural Capital and the Global Sector Heads to shape capital raising strategies, investor relations programs and asset acquisition/disposition strategies.
Implement comprehensive risk management frameworks addressing market risk, operational risk, climate risk, and regulatory risk specific to natural resource assets. Oversee portfolio analytics, performance measurement, and attribution analysis, ensuring transparent reporting to investors and stakeholders. This includes developing sophisticated models for biological growth, yield forecasting, commodity price exposure, and climate scenario analysis.
