Boiler O&M Mech Team Lead (union)

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Boiler Mechanic Team Lead to provide technical leadership and hands-on support for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of boiler systems and related utility equipment. In this role, you will combine strong mechanical expertise with frontline leadership to help ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

What you will do:

• Lead and coordinate the daily activities of Boiler Mechanics and maintenance personnel.
• Perform hands-on troubleshooting, repair, installation, and maintenance of industrial boilers and associated equipment.
• Support the operation and maintenance of steam generation, condensate return, water treatment, pumps, valves, piping systems, heat exchangers, and combustion equipment.
• Prioritize and assign work orders to support timely completion of maintenance activities.
• Monitor boiler performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and safety.
• Conduct inspections and diagnose equipment failures using sound troubleshooting techniques.
• Provide coaching, training, and technical guidance to maintenance team members.
• Support planned shutdowns, equipment upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, EHS, and Maintenance leadership to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with spare parts inventory management and maintenance planning activities.
• Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation to reduce equipment downtime.
• Utilize CMMS software to document maintenance activities, equipment history, and corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with Johnson Controls safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements.
• Enforce safe work practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work permits, and PPE requirements.

How You Will Do It

• Own daily execution with accountability, safety, and integrity, while setting a clear standard for quality workmanship.
• Stay close to the work by understanding plant conditions firsthand, removing obstacles quickly, and keeping critical systems available for the people who depend on them.
• Use candid troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and follow-through to improve equipment reliability and prevent repeat failures.
• Lead as one team by coaching mechanics, sharing expertise, and partnering across Operations, Engineering, EHS, and Maintenance.
• Keep maintenance records current in the CMMS so work history, corrective actions, and planning decisions are accurate and actionable.
• Promote safe work habits every day by reinforcing LOTO, confined space, hot work, and PPE requirements before work begins.

What we look for:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance experience, including experience with boiler systems and steam distribution equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Experience leading maintenance activities, projects, or teams.
• Working knowledge of boilers, burners, pumps, valves, steam systems, and utility equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, piping diagrams, technical manuals, and schematics.
• Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work safely in an industrial environment and respond to emergency maintenance situations.

Preferred

• Technical degree, apprenticeship, or certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, or a related field.
• Boiler Operator License, Stationary Engineer License, or equivalent certification.
• Experience with combustion control systems and water treatment programs.
• Experience with predictive maintenance technologies and reliability-centered maintenance practices.
• Prior experience leading teams in a manufacturing or industrial facility.

Pay Range: $53.50 hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
