Faculty, Clinical Mental Health Counseling

The opportunity

Beloit College invites applications for a founding core faculty member in its new Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program. This is an opportunity to help build a program from the ground up and to shape its curriculum, teaching, and culture at a liberal arts institution that genuinely values faculty expertise and intellectual vision.

We are seeking a counselor educator who understands that counselor education at its best is not just skills training: it is the formation of professionals who are theoretically grounded, socially aware, and equipped to work with the full complexity of human experience. Core faculty will teach across the CMHC curriculum, advise and mentor students, and contribute to the program's CACREP accreditation, scholarship, and service.

The program's animating commitments include: social justice as a foundational orientation, embedded throughout the curriculum and clinical training; attention to underserved communities and the mental health workforce needs of south-central Wisconsin and the broader region, including Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison; interprofessional and interdisciplinary education, consistent with Beloit's institution-wide pedagogical identity; and community-based, experiential learning as a core program feature.

Role and Responsibilities

Core faculty serve as core counselor education faculty for the CMHC program, as defined under the 2024 CACREP Standards. This is a 12-month faculty position with teaching, advising, scholarship, and service responsibilities commensurate with the program's needs. Core faculty report to the CMHC Program Director.

Teaching and Curriculum

• Teach across the CMHC curriculum in areas of professional expertise, including foundational counseling coursework and one or more CACREP specialized practice areas
• Contribute to curriculum development, delivery, and continuous improvement consistent with the 2024 CACREP Standards
• Provide clinical instruction and supervision as assigned, in keeping with program policies

Student Development and Gatekeeping

• Advise and mentor students, supporting professional identity development and well-being
• Participate in student assessment, retention, and gatekeeping processes consistent with ethical and professional standards
• Contribute to admissions and recruitment, especially for the first and second cohorts

Scholarship, Service, and Accreditation

• Maintain sustained professional engagement through scholarship, professional development, service, advocacy, or ongoing counseling practice
• Contribute to CACREP self-study preparation, program evaluation, and ongoing compliance
• Represent the program in professional counseling organizations and collaborate across the School of Health Sciences and the broader College

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet the 2024 CACREP core counselor education faculty requirements. Per CACREP Standards, core faculty hold a full-time appointment to the program and must have one of the following:

• An earned doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program; or
• A related doctoral degree and full-time employment as a faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013; or
• Full-time doctoral-level faculty employment in a CORE-accredited master's program prior to July 1, 2017; or
• Graduation from a rehabilitation counseling doctoral program prior to January 1, 2018

In addition, all candidates must demonstrate the following per 2024 CACREP Standards:

• Sustained membership in professional counseling organizations
• Relevant professional counseling credentials (e.g., LPC, LCPC, or equivalent Wisconsin licensure or eligibility for Wisconsin licensure)
• Evidence of sustained professional engagement through professional development, service and advocacy, ongoing counseling practice, or research and scholarly activity in counseling

Beyond CACREP requirements, Beloit College requires:

• Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and evaluating student learning at the graduate level
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, multicultural counseling, and working with marginalized and underserved communities
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills and the capacity to function effectively in a startup environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Identification with the Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialized practice area (per CACREP Standards)
• Experience teaching in a CACREP-accredited program and familiarity with CACREP accreditation processes
• Experience with rural mental health, integrated behavioral health, or health disparities
• Background in interprofessional education or community-based training models
• Scholarly activity in areas aligned with the program's mission

Appointment and Compensation

This is a full-time, 12-month core counselor education faculty position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2027.
