Position Overview

A yard parts puller is responsible for identifying, locating, and removing automotive parts from damaged or salvaged vehicles. The employee plays a critical role in the auto salvage industry by providing quality parts for repairs, ensuring efficient inventory management, and delivering excellent customer service. The parts puller's efficiency in extracting parts in a timely manner helps build customer loyalty and contributes to the organization's reputation for reliability and excellent customer service, which contributes to the organization's financial success.

The Parts Puller I job description encompasses the Parts Puller in Training and Parts Puller I job duties. This position is paid hourly and is non-exempt. 

Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

1. Fulfillment – Parts Pulling

• Identify and remove parts from vehicles using hand and power tools
• Inspect parts for quality before they are removed from vehicles to ensure that they are in good condition and meet the organization's quality standards
• Parts pullers may need to clean parts before they are sold or added to inventory, using water and soap to wash off dirt and grime or using a solvent or degreaser to remove oil or other contaminants
• Notify the sales team of damaged parts, including identifying the part and providing details on the damage.
• Support the fulfillment department and assist with any other duties, as assigned.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment by keeping the yard vehicle clean and organized, as well as following all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe work environment. 
• Parts pullers may need to operate heavy equipment to assist in repositioning vehicles to gain access to pull parts, depending on the site.

2. Quality Control

• Inspect parts for quality and defects; ensure only high-quality parts are retained for sale.

3. Customer Service

• Parts pullers may need to interact with customers who are looking for specific parts. 

4. Safety

• Utilize expertise in operating heavy equipment and to safely move vehicles and parts. 
• Utilize expertise in operating the assigned yard vehicle around the facility
• Adhere to safety regulations, environmental regulations, and company policies while performing duties.
• Ensuring all equipment is properly inspected and following proper lifting and handling techniques to prevent injuries.
• Wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Reports any issues to their supervisor. 

5. Perform Other Duties as Assigned

Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 1 year of automotive repair or mechanical experience preferred.
• Forklift Certificate preferred.
• Ability to drive pick-up trucks or vans.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment.
• Ability to properly use hand and power tools to disassemble vehicles and remove parts.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
• Must be able to work effectively alone or with others in a team environment. 
• Must be able to work collaboratively across functions. 
• Must be a self-starter with the demonstrated ability to meet timelines and schedules related to essential functions described above. 
• Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. 

• Must be able to ambulate throughout the facility and salvage yard for most of the workday.
• Must be able to continuously work outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.).
• Must be able to operate equipment and yard vehicles frequently. 
• Work in an area equipped with forklifts, chain hoists, and other tools as needed.
• Ability to use both hands regularly with enough dexterity to operate basic hand and power tools safely.
• Ability to lift, move, and carry objects and materials up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.
• Expected work hours are based on role and location.
• Ability to work occasional overtime as needed as determined by the employee’s supervisor.
