SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for supervising and supporting Rounds/Refrigeration operations, including the maintenance and reliable operation of refrigeration systems, ammonia compressors, boilers, air compressors, hot water systems, flotation systems, main lift stations, carcass coolers, and other refrigeration and utility equipment. While the primary responsibility of this position is Rounds/Refrigeration, the position may also be required to assist with or provide coverage for general plant maintenance activities from time to time based on operational and staffing needs.

Responsibilities include providing daily supervision and direction to the Roundsman crew; monitoring refrigeration and utility equipment to minimize unplanned downtime and identify and address operating issues; prioritizing and scheduling Roundsman work with assistance from maintenance planners; and ensuring refrigeration and utility repairs are completed safely and in accordance with applicable requirements.

This position is responsible for maintaining the plant's Process Safety Management (PSM) program and compliance with company PSM standards; ensuring refrigeration systems are properly maintained; verifying required equipment licenses and operating certificates are current and renewed as required; and supporting the training and development of Rounds/Refrigeration personnel.

The position will also oversee the operation and maintenance of carcass cooler refrigeration systems, with attention to carcass condition and temperature as they relate to shrink, quality, yield, ergonomics, and plant profitability. This role will maintain high levels of labor efficiency and effectiveness within the Roundsman crew and assist with PSM, refrigeration, and general maintenance activities as operational needs require. Must be able to work flexible hours based on operational needs.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Experience: 6+ years of maintenance experience, including supervisory experience, with a background in industrial refrigeration, ammonia refrigeration systems, utilities, or Rounds/Refrigeration operations. Must be willing and able to assist with or provide coverage for general plant maintenance activities as operational and staffing needs require.

Computer Skills: Standard computer skills required; ability to use computerized maintenance systems for work orders and maintenance-related documentation.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate safety, PSM, refrigeration, maintenance, and operational requirements to team members.

Special Skills: Knowledge and experience with industrial refrigeration systems, ammonia compressors, boilers, air compressors, hot water systems, carcass cooler refrigeration systems, and related utility equipment. Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM), refrigeration safety requirements, equipment monitoring, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting preferred. Ability to support general maintenance activities outside of Rounds/Refrigeration when operational needs require.

Supervisory: Responsible for supervising and directing Rounds/Refrigeration personnel performing similar or interrelated tasks, including prioritizing work, supporting training, and maintaining safe and efficient operations. May also assist with supervision, coordination, or coverage of general maintenance activities as needed.

Travel: 1–5 domestic trips per year.
