Job Summary:
The Occupational Therapist is responsible for evaluating, planning, implementing, and documenting occupational therapy services for patients of all ages. The Occupational Therapist develops individualized treatment plans designed to restore function, improve activities of daily living, promote independence, and maximize each patient's physical, cognitive, and psychosocial abilities. The therapist collaborates with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, patients, and families to achieve optimal outcomes.
Essential Job Duties:
- Perform comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations and establish individualized treatment plans.
- Assess patients' physical, cognitive, sensory, perceptual, and psychosocial functioning.
- Develop measurable goals and modify treatment plans based on patient progress.
- Provide therapeutic interventions to improve activities of daily living (ADLs), instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), upper extremity function, coordination, strength, cognition, and functional mobility.
- Recommend adaptive equipment, splints, orthotics, and environmental modifications to maximize patient independence.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers regarding treatment plans, home exercise programs, safety techniques, and adaptive strategies.
- Accurately document evaluations, daily treatment notes, progress reports, discharge summaries, and other required medical records in accordance with regulatory and departmental standards.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, case management, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Participate in discharge planning and provide recommendations for continued therapy services and equipment needs.
- Maintain productivity standards while delivering high-quality, compassionate patient care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, departmental meetings, continuing education, and performance improvement activities.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state practice acts, accreditation standards, and professional ethics.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Complies with local, state and federal laws and regulations.
Requirements
Education/ Licensure/Certification/ Experience
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program required.
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy required.
- Current Occupational Therapist license in the State of Maine required.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification or ability to obtain within established timeframe.
- Previous clinical experience preferred.
- New graduates are encouraged to apply.
Availability:
- Must be able to work Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends and holidays
- Hours depend on customer and departmental needs, flexibility required
- Able to drive amongst Cary’s work locations and contract sites.
