Project Description

Our client, a large-scale enterprise technology organization, is seeking an Alert Management & Observability Standards Lead to define, govern, and continuously improve their enterprise alerting ecosystem. This role serves as the central authority for alert lifecycle management — from initial definition and severity standards through routing, response instructions, and KPI reporting. The ideal candidate brings deep observability platform expertise, a strong governance mindset, and a proven ability to reduce operational noise while improving the quality and actionability of alerts across 24x7 operations environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead rationalization and prioritization of enterprise system alerts based on business criticality and operational impact
  • Establish, document, and enforce standards for alert severity, metadata, naming conventions, and routing across observability platforms
  • Serve as the organizational gatekeeper for determining which alerts require immediate escalation to the 24x7 Operations team
  • Build and maintain a centralized catalog of clear, standardized response instructions for all actionable alerts
  • Define, monitor, and report on KPIs related to alerting health, signal-to-noise ratio, and operational outcomes
  • Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, SRE, and operations teams to drive continuous improvement in alert quality and coverage
  • Champion observability best practices and enforce standards across cross-functional technical teams

Mandatory Skills

  • Advanced hands-on experience with Splunk
  • Advanced hands-on experience with Datadog
  • Intermediate experience with Prometheus and Grafana
  • Intermediate experience with ServiceNow Event Management
  • Advanced incident response experience including workflow design and operational coverage modeling
  • Proven experience reducing alert noise and improving alert actionability at enterprise scale
  • Strong understanding of 24x7 operations environments and escalation frameworks
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with a demonstrated ability to drive and enforce cross-team standards

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with additional observability or AIOps platforms
  • Background in SRE or platform engineering environments
  • Familiarity with ITIL or similar IT operations frameworks
  • Experience in highly regulated industries such as healthcare or financial services
