Pay Grade: Coordinator 6
The Assistant Director, Student Engagement and Communications is responsible for developing and implementing integrated strategies that enhance student engagement, communications, and connection across the college in collaboration with Communications & Marketing. This position leads the department's digital presence, including social media and CRM-driven communications, while promoting the student experience through storytelling and engagement initiatives. The Assistant Director works with campus partners to promote programs, services, and opportunities that support student engagement initiatives, including student clubs and organizations, student events, and student leadership development.

*Develops and leads comprehensive engagement strategies and campaigns that strengthen student involvement and advance departmental priorities through coordinated digital communications, outreach, and programming efforts
*Assists with departmental event support including student clubs and organizations, and student government association
*Manages Student Activities social media channels in alignment with institutional brand standards, social media governance, and content strategy established by Communications & Marketing
*Creates and coordinates multimedia content, including photography, video, and written storytelling, to highlight student experiences, programs, and campus life
Develops and executes communication and promotional plans for major student engagement initiatives, programs, and events
Partners with Enrollment and CRM teams to develop targeted communication campaigns through CRM platforms that support student engagement and participation
Works with Communications & Marketing to ensure the college calendar is updated, as applicable, in coordination with the CRM support team
Monitors and analyzes engagement metrics across social media and CRM platforms; uses data to refine strategies and improve effectiveness
Serves as a key liaison to the college’s student content creator program, helping identify opportunities, student participants, and content that amplifies authentic student voices and the student experience
Provides mentorship and guidance to student leaders (e.g., Student Government Association) and contributors in communication, branding, and digital media best practices
Collaborates with departments across the college, including Student Affairs, Communications & Marketing, and other stakeholders on student engagement priorities
Collaborates with Communications & Marketing to identify and develop student stories, content opportunities, and engagement initiatives that support institutional communications and marketing objectives
Manages multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timelines, goals, and deliverables are met
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Knowledge of social media strategy, digital marketing, and content development best practices
Ability to develop engaging student-centered messaging and storytelling initiatives
Skill in using CRM systems to design targeted and data-informed communication strategies
Strong project management, organizational skills, interpersonal, and communications skills
Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build strong working relationships
Creativity and adaptability in developing innovative engagement strategies
Demonstrated experience creating and managing digital content, including social media, photography, and video
Ability to work in different environmental conditions and temperatures as activities occur indoor and outdoor
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift and carry up to 25 lbs of materials associated with events or content production
Ability to travel throughout Wake County as needed for events and programs
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Two (2) years of experience in digital communications, social media management, student engagement, or marketing
Valid Driver's license and approval required by the College’s liability insurance carrier
Preferences:
Experience working in a higher education environment
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Higher Education, or a related field
Knowledge of CRM platforms and role in supporting communication and engagement strategies to support student engagement
