Overview
This role is a full time field sales position within a dynamic and high-performance Automation sales team. As an Automation Specialist Account Manager at Waters, your responsibilities include the design and implementation of a strategic sales plan that drives sales of our full range of automation products and services. In addition to bringing a proven track record in sales, the desired candidate should be a driven and dynamic individual and a fast learner, as well as an avid networker with good communication skills, capable of thinking strategically yet excellent in tactical implementation of programs.
- Penetrate key accounts in the Pharmaceutical, Biopharma drug development space, Food and Environmental testing and related clinical research, CRO’s, Biotech accounts and to a smaller extent, Academia and Industrial accounts.
- Proactively manage new account acquisition, the sales funnel and maximize lead to opportunity as well as opportunity to order conversion
- Present and sell Andrew+ and Onelab products and strategies including demoing solutions to potential customers
- Manage sales targets which will be a mixture of instrument unit sales, accessories, software and service sales, defining the overall revenue for the territory.
- Continuous sales funnel management (leads, opportunities, won/lost), accurate sales forecasting and effective CRM utilization and maintenance.
- Actively explore market potential for the automation of applications in a new or diverse range of subject areas. Projects will range from simple standalone solutions to complex multi-instrument projects.
- Arrange and deliver seminars and instrument demonstrations.
Responsibilities
Ensuring the health of your automation territory – engaging proactively with new and existing accounts across Biopharma, CROs, Biotech, and selected Academic and Industrial organisations. This includes customer engagement such as customer visits, planning and delivering on-site seminars or demonstrations, and identifying opportunities to automate workflows ranging from simple standalone tasks to complex multi‑instrument projects.
Managing and developing your sales pipeline – reviewing year‑to‑date performance, monitoring opportunities at each stage of the funnel, managing lead‑to‑opportunity conversion, and ensuring accurate forecasting and CRM hygiene. This includes responding to inbound requests and positioning Andrew Alliance automation solutions to meet a wide range of customer needs.
Building future pipeline and expanding market penetration – identifying emerging opportunities where automation can deliver process improvements, engaging with customers early in their workflow evaluation, and driving adoption of Waters’ automation instruments, accessories, software, and services throughout the territory.
Being an Automation Specialist Account Manager involves travel across your assigned region and provides flexibility in how you plan your customer engagements, structure your week, and prioritise high‑value opportunities in the field.
This role offers visibility across a broad range of customers at different stages of digital and laboratory transformation. You will gain significant exposure to automation projects and cross‑functional teams, and will have opportunities to develop your commercial, technical, and strategic skillset. Future career pathways at Waters may include progression into systems sales, marketing, or more advanced technical roles, depending on your interests and aspirations.
Qualifications
- You may have worked in a lab previously, developing methods or had a sales position focused on instrumentation and/or chemistry workflows and applications. Both are great for us in this role!
- Knowledge or relevant qualifications in Analytical Chemistry or Biology with knowledge of Liquid Chromatography, Sample Preparation and experience with using automation.
- A proactive customer-focused mindset and a passion for improving processes to be more efficient and reliable.
- Great problem-solving skills to support our customers in addressing some of their automation challenges.
