Role: Underwriter – Political Violence
Location: Singapore
Position type: Full time, permanent
Our Underwriters are at the heart of everything we do, without them our business wouldn’t function.
The Underwriter is a key member of the underwriting team; the individual will have a level of authority to make sound underwriting decisions and contribute thinking and output to operational delivery of the strategy. The individual will take responsibility for maintaining and building new business to profitably grow MS AUL and minimise loss exposure.
While there is rarely a typical day, here’s a snapshot of some of the key parts of the job:
Be part of a recognised market leading Political Violence team with a geographically diverse portfolio and broad appetite.
Ensure risks are analysed and written in accordance with the agreed parameters – making sound, profitable long term decisions with a focus on smart rationale underwriting.
Understand and negotiate insurance in line with corporate standards
Develop and maintain effective relationships with existing and new clients/brokers through regular contact, demonstrating a clear understanding of their business and how we add value.
Manage the business written across the department to ensure that it is compliant with relevant risk, regulatory and legal requirements
Undertake analysis of the portfolio to identify business opportunities, products and clients, ensuring a robust business case.
Liaise and ensure regional compliance with underwriting management, taking corrective action as necessary and operating within agreed authorities ensuring that underwriting controls are properly managed.
Effectively represent self and class in external activities, groups and committees
Review underwriting figures on a regular basis in order that unusual trends and / or adverse movements may be dealt with by appropriate action.
Work in partnership with the other teams across the Insurance division, act as a peer reviewer and leverage relationships and opportunities aligned to the wider Political Violence strategy.

Good knowledge and experience with relevant underwriting expertise within the Political Violence market.
