JOB SUMMARY:
Within the context of a resident/client and family centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Care Aide works under the functional direction of a Registered Nurse or other nurse designate and in cooperation with interdisciplinary team members to assist in the delivery of compassionate and culturally safe resident/client care. Following established care plans provides personal care; bathes, grooms, dresses, assists with meals and oral hygiene and performs nursing care duties as applicable. Responds to call bells/alarms. Observes and monitors resident/clients’ progress, symptoms and behavioural changes and reports/records significant observations. Utilizes mechanical aides such as specialty beds, wheelchairs and stretchers to transport resident/clients and provides assistance with lifting and/or transferring of resident/clients following established lifting/safety techniques. Maintains a clean and safe environment for residents/clients and staff. Performs other related duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS:
Education & ExperienceGrade 10 (including English 10). Graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant Program, one-year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Current/Active Registration with BC Community Health Worker and Care Aide Registry.
Knowledge & AbilitiesBasic knowledge of client-centered care and promoting independence.Demonstrates correct use of body-mechanics and knowledge of injury prevention.Knowledge and ability to operate mechanical lifts, following safe work procedures.Knowledge in workplace violence prevention including personal safety techniques.Knowledge of resident/client centered care with people with dementia.Demonstrated ability to practice from a harm reduction approach.Basic technology literacy and ability to operate a computerized resident/client care information system and cellular phone.Demonstrates proficiency in verbal, nonverbal, and written skills through a variety of communication methods (e.g. paper and/or electronic chart, telephone and in-person).Basic knowledge of self-care and motivational support.Demonstrated ability to apply culturally safe and competent care, including when working with Indigenous peoples.Ability to organize workload priorities within a team environment.Ability to take directions from the health care team and clients.Ability to respond effectively and appropriate in a workplace setting.Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
