Colorado Correctional Industries (CCi) is responsible for programs, manufacturing goods and providing services to thousands of government and/or non-profit customers in Colorado. Business is operated in the manufacturing and service related fields.

Colorado Correctional Industries (CCi) is a cash funded, self supporting division of the Colorado Department of Corrections. This position may be eliminated at any time if funding is discontinued. The Department may be able to assist with transferring you to a position that is either comparable or below the classification that you were hired for, but if there is not a vacant position it may result in termination of employment. If the position is eliminated it may require you to relocate to another correctional facility or geographical location based on the need of the CDOC. Also, you must meet minimum qualifications for any vacant positions in order to be considered for a transfer. CCi provides services to many government and non profit organizations with an emphasis on excellent customer service.

This position provides daily oversight of the State Wildland Inmate Fire Team (SWIFT) Trails Teams and Heavy Equipment. This position provides offender employment and training, evaluates equipment and resource needs, and supervises staff in these programs with the goal to employ and train as many offenders within the work units while maintaining security in the workplace.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Directly supervises the day to day operations of the Heavy Equipment and SWIFT and Trails teams by coordinating forest management projects including wildland fires, wildfire mitigation, and rehabilitation, timber stand improvement, beetle kill management, tree planting, and trail construction;
Supervises Heavy Equipment and SWIFT and Trails Crew supervisors and Crew bosses; participates in applicant interviews; schedules staffing patterns; approves training opportunities; and resolves complaints/grievances at the informal level;
Trains and instructs staff and offenders in the appropriate use of all relevant tools, equipment, and procedures to ensure efficient, safe, and effective completion of assigned tasks;
Develops, monitors, and defends business plans, operating budgets, offender pay plans, cost accounting data, and processes to ensure operations fulfill the CCI and CDOC mission;
Maintains accurate and timely documentation and record keeping of revenues, expenditures, and inventories for assigned areas;
Ensures compliant health and safety standards are met; maintains updated and accurate records and documentation;
Ensures a safe and secure correctional working environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Five (5) years of one of the following wildland firefighting, forest management, trail development, general firefighting experience or sales, project management and bidding projects.

OR:

A minimum of three (3) years of experience, as described above may be combined with experience in a correctional environment for a total of at least five (5) years.

Correctional Experience - must be security related duties where primary responsibilities included detaining, controlling movement and escorting inmates in a prison facility; conducting counts and searches while monitoring inmate assignments and movement throughout the day.

Special Qualifications:
Must be able to obtain a FF2 certification(Red Card) within One (1) year of hire.

Substitutions:

Education from an accredited college or university in fire science or a closely related field may substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis. If you are using education as a substitution, you must attach transcripts showing the degree and date awarded.
National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) certification at the Single Resource Level (Crew Boss) will substitute for three (3) years of the required experience. You must attach a copy of your NWCG certification with your application.

Preferred Qualifications:

One (1) years of supervision experience. Supervision is exercising span and control over subordinate staff to include coaching, mentoring, daily monitoring, performance management (planning, reviewing and evaluating), resolving complaints/grievances at the informal level, responsibility for scheduling and leave approval, and providing input that could affect pay, status, or tenure;
Experience in supervising and/or training others in wildland firefighting, forest management, trail development, general firefighting, or closely related experience;
Project Management that required working with multiple agencies;
Experience quoting and bidding projects;
Possess Crew Boss Certification by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG);
Experience working in a correctional environment supervising inmates on large projects.

Possess a high school diploma or GED;
Have NO felony convictions, to include any actions defined in 5 U.S.C. 301; U.S.C. 509, 510; 42 U.S.C. 15601-15609. The CDOC shall not hire nor promote anyone who may have contact with an offender who has engaged in sexual abuse which includes acts, activity, and sexual behavior, in a prison or other institution as defined in 42 U.S.C. 1997; or has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse, or has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in the above paragraph. Successfully pass all modules of the Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, to include English reading comprehension, relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics;
Possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics;
- Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist;
- Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down;
- Use arms, palms of hands, shins, and feet to deliver blows;
- Withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows;
- Swing a baton in a striking technique;
- Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic;
- Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions;
Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during Basic Training and will be exposed while on assignment;
Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security;
Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury;
Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently;
Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations;
Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors, utilizing tactfulness and a congenial, personable manner;
Work with people of the opposite sex, diverse racial ethnic groups, mentally ill and emotionally disturbed offenders;
Communicate by talking, listening and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, assignments;
Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings;
Willing and able to travel;
Willing and able to work various shifts, days, afternoons, graveyards (nights) which includes a rotating shift schedule;
TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire;
