Quality Engineer – Mobile (Manual)

Shortica is a next-generation mobile streaming platform dedicated to short-form series content. Think Netflix, but designed from the ground up for bite-sized, addictive storytelling. Our platform delivers premium short-form series with studio-quality video playback, seamless streaming, and a mobile-first experience that keeps audiences coming back for more.
We are at an early and exciting stage where quality is a competitive advantage. Every frame, 
every tap, every purchase flow has to work flawlessly. We’re looking for a meticulous Quality 
Engineer to be the last line of defense before our product reaches users.

As a Quality Engineer (Manual) at Shortica, you will be the guardian of product quality across 
our iOS and Android mobile applications, admin panel, and end-to-end platform. You’ll test 
everything from video streaming and playback performance to in-app purchases, deep linking, 
and data integrity. This is a hands-on role that requires a sharp eye for detail, strong mobile 
domain expertise, and the ability to break things before our users do.

Streaming & Video Playback
• Test video streaming quality across iOS and Android devices — playback start time, 
buffering, adaptive bitrate switching, and resolution quality. 
• Validate latency and performance under varying network conditions (WiFi, 4G, 3G, 
offline/edge cases). 
• Test DRM-protected content playback (FairPlay on iOS, Widevine on Android) ensuring 
content security and smooth playback. 
• Verify background playback, picture-in-picture, AirPlay/Chromecast, and audio session 
behaviors. 
• Test video player controls, seek behavior, episode auto-advancement, and series binge
watching flows. 

Performance & Stability 
• Conduct performance testing — app launch time, screen transitions, scroll performance, 
memory usage, and battery consumption. 
• Test app behavior under stress conditions: low memory, low storage, interrupted 
connectivity, and background/foreground switching. 
• Identify and document crashes, ANRs (Android), and UI freezes with detailed 
reproduction steps. 
• Validate app behavior across a matrix of devices, OS versions, and screen sizes for both 
iOS and Android. 
• Validate deferred deep linking for new users (install → open → land on correct content). 
• Test attribution links and campaign tracking parameters to ensure proper analytics 
tagging. 

Purchases & Monetization 
• Test in-app purchase flows end to end — subscription plans, coin/token purchases, 
restore purchases, and receipt validation. 
• Validate Apple App Store and Google Play billing integration, including sandbox/test 
environments. 
• Test paywall display logic, trial periods, upgrade/downgrade flows, and cancellation 
handling. 
• Verify purchase-related edge cases: failed transactions, network interruptions mid
purchase, duplicate charges, and refund scenarios. 
• Ensure correct entitlement delivery — purchased content is accessible immediately and 
persists across sessions and devices. 

QA Process & Documentation 
• Write and maintain comprehensive test cases and test plans for features, regression, 
and release cycles. 
• Perform regression testing before every release to ensure existing functionality is not 
broken. 
• File detailed, reproducible bug reports with severity classification, screenshots, screen 
recordings, and device/OS information. 
• Participate in sprint planning, grooming, and release sign-off processes. 
• Collaborate with developers to reproduce, troubleshoot, and verify bug fixes. 

 

• 3+ years of manual QA experience focused on mobile applications (iOS and 
Android). 
• Hands-on experience testing video streaming or media playback applications. 
• Strong understanding of iOS and Android platforms — OS behaviors, permissions, 
notifications, and platform-specific quirks. 
• Experience testing in-app purchases and subscription flows on both App Store 
and Google Play. 
• Experience testing deep links, universal links, and app-to-web navigation flows. 
• Strong attention to detail and a passion for finding edge cases that others miss. 
• Excellent communication skills — ability to write clear bug reports and collaborate 
effectively with developers. 
• Self-driven and organized — able to manage your own testing priorities in a fast-paced 
environment. 

 
• Experience with streaming platforms or entertainment/media apps. 
• Experience with performance profiling tools (Xcode Instruments, Android Studio Profiler). 
• Basic understanding of REST APIs and ability to test endpoints using Postman or similar 
tools. 
• Experience with Firebase (Crashlytics, Remote Config, Analytics) for monitoring and test 
validation. 
• Experience testing admin panels / CMS platforms.
