Senior Manager, Health & Wellness

Job Summary:

Leads the organization’s employee benefits, leave administration, disability management, workers’ compensation, reasonable accommodations, and employee wellness programs, ensuring these functions support organizational objectives, regulatory compliance, workforce availability, and an overall positive employee experience.

Job Description:

• Serves as the organization’s subject matter expert for employee benefits, disability management, accommodations, leave administration, and Workers’ Compensation, partnering with HR Business Partners, Legal, Labor Relations, Safety, Payroll, Finance, and Operations to develop consistent policies and solutions.

• Oversees all Leave of Absence programs—including FMLA, ADA, short‑ and long‑term disability, military leave, and other applicable leave programs—ensuring consistent policy application, regulatory compliance, and coordinated return‑to‑work transitions.

• Leads the Workers’ Compensation program, coordinating claim administration, case management, and return‑to‑work activities in partnership with Safety, Legal, Operations, and third‑party administrators to ensure timely resolution and regulatory compliance.

• Leads the Reasonable Accommodation program by facilitating the ADA interactive process and establishing standardized documentation, workflows, and governance practices to support consistency and reduce compliance risk.

• Develops and oversees wellness initiatives that support employees’ physical, emotional, financial, and overall, well‑being, partnering with internal stakeholders and external vendors and evaluating program effectiveness through participation metrics and organizational outcomes.

• Leads and develops teams across benefits and employee health programs, strengthening leadership capability, aligning priorities with the HR strategy, and managing complex cross‑functional team dynamics.

• Manages the budget for employee health and benefits programs—including leave administration, accommodations, Workers’ Compensation, and wellness—analyzing spending trends and adjusting allocations to optimize cost‑effectiveness and support strategic priorities.

• Builds dashboards, reports, and cross‑functional KPIs across benefits, leave, accommodations, Workers’ Compensation, and wellness programs, analyzing workforce data to identify trends and risks and providing executive‑level insights for strategic decision‑making.

• Ensures consistent application of policies and regulatory standards across teams, supporting ethical operations and mitigating compliance risks.

• Leads and validates planning and execution of restoration and emergency‑preparedness activities to strengthen operational resilience.

• Assumes and oversees expanded duties aligned with organizational priorities to drive departmental effectiveness and strategic alignment.

• Leads and oversees the HR Services Team, ensuring consistent, high‑quality service delivery across employee benefits, leave administration, disability management, accommodations, and employee health programs, while guiding employees and leaders on HR policies, processes, and Workday system navigation.

Additional Job Description:

Education

Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, public health, healthcare administration, occupational health and safety, or related field. Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience

• 7 years' experience in HR, employee benefits, disability/leave management, worker’s compensation, with responsibilities of planning, budgeting, and at least 5 years' experience in a manager role; with at least 3 of those years of experience overseeing multiple teams or projects.
• Experience with FMLA, ADA, Military Leave and leaves of absence in general.
• Working knowledge of federal and local laws and regulations.
• Experience managing day-to-day operations, teams, defining and achieving departmental objectives.
• Experience working with HRIS platform for leave and documentation management is preferred (Ex. Workday)

Additional education may substitute for the required experience when it aligns with the competencies and knowledge necessary for the role:

• Master’s degree in a relevant field may substitute when accompanied by a minimum of 5 years of experience performing related functions and at least 3 years in a manager role overseeing multiple teams and projects.
