Position: Machine Shop Specialist

We are looking for a highly skilled professional to join our Bawal Production team as a Machine Shop Specialist who can work in flexible shifts. The successful candidate will have following responsibilities as an individual contributor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, optimize, and standardize machining processes to improve productivity, quality, and cost efficiency.
  • Prepare process plans, operation sequences, cycle time estimates, and machining feasibility studies for new and existing components.
  • Provide technical support for CNC programming, tooling selection, work holding, fixture design, and machining methods.
  • Optimize machine utilization, setup time, cutting parameters, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to maximize productivity.
  • Ensure machined components meet engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, dimensional tolerances, and customer quality standards.
  • Analyze machining issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurring problems.
  • Coordinate with Production, Planning, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Stores to ensure smooth execution of machining operations.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) by validating manufacturing feasibility, conducting trial machining, and establishing robust machining processes.
  • Identify and implement productivity improvement, cost reduction, tooling optimization, and cycle time reduction initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, tooling standards, and process documentation.
  • Monitor tooling performance and recommend improvements to enhance tool life, machining quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Support preventive maintenance initiatives by identifying equipment issues affecting machining performance and recommending corrective actions.
  • Train and mentor machine operators on machining best practices, quality requirements, machine operation, and process discipline.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality management systems, 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Analyze production data and machining performance metrics to identify trends and drive operational excellence.
  • Support automation, digital manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 initiatives to enhance machine shop capability and manufacturing performance.

What you bring 

Technical Skills: 

  • Education: B.E./B. Tech/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience: 5+ years in Machine Shop operations,
  • Industry Preference: Automotive, Heavy Engineering or similar 
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and TPM practices 
  • Hands-on experience in preventive and predictive maintenance of paint equipment 
  • Understanding of ISO/TS, IATF, and customer-specific quality standards 
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes, including turning, milling, boring, drilling, tapping, and grinding.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming fundamentals, G-code/M-code, program optimization, and machining cycle improvements.
  • Experience with CNC machining centers, CNC lathes, horizontal/vertical machining centers, turn-mill centers, and conventional machine tools.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, machining symbols, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Knowledge of cutting tool selection, tool path optimization, machining parameters, and tool life management.
  • Expertise in work holding methods, fixture design, clamping techniques, and setup optimization.
  • Strong understanding of machining tolerances, surface finish requirements, geometric accuracy, and dimensional control.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, height gauges, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
  • Knowledge of engineering materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals, along with their machinability characteristics.
  • Experience in process planning, machining feasibility studies, cycle time estimation, capacity planning, and production scheduling.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, SMED, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and manufacturing process documentation.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (D365, Oracle, or equivalent) for production planning, work order management, and material tracking.
  • Understanding of quality management systems (ISO 9001), Statistical Process Control (SPC), root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices, machine capability analysis, and troubleshooting of machining-related issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for production reporting, data analysis, and performance monitoring.
  • Strong understanding of EHS requirements, machine safety, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and safe machining practices.
