Job Summary:

Lead the operational backbone that a global portfolio of 20+ software businesses depends on.

Job Description:

Lead the operational backbone that a global portfolio of 20+ software businesses depends on.

The Role

Turner Portfolio is part of Volaris Group (Constellation Software). We acquire vertical market software businesses and hold them forever. Our Portfolio has 20+ businesses across 3 Verticals, spanning North America, EMEA and APAC.

We are looking for a Vice President, Portfolio Operations to own the operational and governance backbone the portfolio runs on: financial reporting and analysis, Investment Committee process, legal, information security, systems and data, and people support for the portfolio team.

This is a newly created role reporting directly to the Portfolio CEO. You will lead a nine-person team across five specialisms — financial reporting, legal, information security, systems and data, and people support — based in North America and Europe.

This is a strategic partner role. The reporting the Portfolio CEO takes outside the portfolio originates here. Operational excellence is the floor: we expect you to use that vantage point to spot and act on improvement opportunities across reporting, controls, data and operations.

Travel expectation is reasonably light and largely in your control. Attendance at the monthly portfolio leadership meeting in the UK is the one fixed commitment. Beyond that, you decide: portfolio or Volaris events, team-building, and the occasional visit where it earns its keep.

Where the role sits

The Turner Portfolio leadership team reports to the Portfolio CEO, each role with a distinct remit:

  • Vertical CEOs — grow their Verticals both organically and through acquisition
  • Chief Investment Officer — the M&A engine, owning capital deployment and transactions
  • Chief Growth Officer — the value creation engine, owning growth, capability and the growth operating model
  • VP, Portfolio Operations — this role: the operational and governance hub the others depend on

The distinction matters: the Verticals own performance, the Chief Investment Officer deploys capital, the Chief Growth Officer creates value across the portfolio. You provide the reporting, governance, legal, security, systems and people infrastructure that lets all three move quickly and with confidence — deliberately lean, deliberately enabling. In practice that means light-touch reporting demands on the businesses, fast turnaround on compliance asks, and being generous with data and analytical support — an enabler, not a gatekeeper.

What you own

  • Financial reporting and analysis. Own the data, analysis and reporting the Portfolio CEO relies on outside the portfolio, consolidated with the Chief Growth Officer and Chief Investment Officer: quarterly strategic review packs, board packs and Volaris and Constellation Software submissions on time, every cycle, with variance commentary, trend analysis and leading indicators behind the numbers — plus internal control discipline, working capital cadence and consolidated cash flow visibility.
  • Investment Committee. Run as a disciplined governance forum: fresh analysis, pre-reads in advance, decisions logged, actions tracked to completion.
  • Legal. Deal support on acquisitions alongside the Chief Investment Officer, plus operational legal across commercial, employment, data and regulatory matters — pragmatic and low-friction for the businesses.
  • Information security and risk. You own the posture and the outcomes — assessments, remediation, training and patch compliance; your security lead provides the technical depth.
  • Systems and data. Own the portfolio's systems and data infrastructure: the shared backbone for the Chief Growth Officer's AI and operating model programmes and the Portfolio CEO's reporting, maintained for availability, integration health and data quality.
  • People support. Serving a portfolio team of around 45 people across North America and Europe, with employment compliance and employee experience front of mind.
  • Team leadership. Nine people across five specialisms. Recruit well, delegate properly, and address underperformance early.

You lead experts — you do not need to be one in every field

The team you lead are capable specialists with real depth in their disciplines: legal, security, reporting, systems and people support. Your job is to set direction, ask the right questions, connect the functions, support your team and hold the standard. You are accountable for outcomes across all five areas, but you do not need to be the deepest expert in any of them — only literate enough in each to recognise when something needs attention.

What is in it for you

Few roles at this level combine five functions with a genuine portfolio-wide view: 20+ businesses and more arriving via acquisition, close proximity to real capital allocation decisions, and a direct partnership with the Portfolio CEO from day one. This is a building role, not a caretaking one — use your experience and your ideas to make the portfolio run better. In turn, we will challenge and support you to be the best version of your professional self.

How we work

We push ourselves and each other. We try things, we get some of them wrong, and we prefer that to standing still — which means we are willing to question how something has always been done and test a different route. Curiosity and a bit of healthy challenge go a long way here.

We are also straightforwardly human with each other: we care about people personally, we are honest when something is difficult, and we laugh a lot. Nobody carries a difficult week on their own here.

The standard is high and consistently applied. Reporting cycles do not move, the numbers are properly tested, and problems are better raised early than managed quietly. Stay composed when things compress, be direct about what is not working, and take a challenge on your work in your stride — do that, and you will find significant scope, considerable trust and very little bureaucracy.

What we are looking for

  • Senior operations leader who has run a multi-function stack. Likely backgrounds: VP or SVP of Portfolio Operations or Shared Services in a listed group, Director of Operations at a mid-cap software business, Group Operations Director or Chief of Staff with finance, legal and IT reporting in, or portfolio operations leadership within Volaris or Constellation Software.
  • Strong reporting and analytical credentials. You have prepared and stood behind board-grade financial and operational packs, and are comfortable being the source of truth in front of a board or investment committee.
  • Listed-group reporting and compliance experience (essential). Comfortable with a fixed quarterly cadence of board and group reporting on growth, profitability and capital efficiency.
  • International experience (essential). Accountable for operations across multiple jurisdictions (including North America and Europe), and you understand employment models well enough to select and challenge them.
  • Proven at leading functions outside your own expertise. You have owned a discipline where your best report knew more than you did, and can evidence how you set the standard, read the signals and held a specialist to account — including hiring into disciplines whose craft you cannot assess hands-on.
  • Comfortable in a federated, decentralised operating model.
  • Sufficient information security and risk literacy to own the posture. You need not be a security practitioner, but you must be able to set the standard, interrogate the metrics and hold a dedicated specialist to account.
