Equipment Operator I - Streets

Salary: $19.00/hr

General supervision is provided by a Street Supervisor.

1. All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior outlined in chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.
2. Operate equipment including trucks, backhoes, air compressors, rollers, loaders, mud-jack, pumps, pavers, tack and tar pots and other similar equipment and machinery. Drive as assigned by Supervisor.
3. Inspect and restore equipment fluid levels including oil, fuel, water and transmission fluid; verify operational gauges and tires as required; lubricate equipment as needed; service and adjust as necessary.
4. Build, paint, repair and maintain a variety of City property including barricades, fences, bridge rails and handrails, bridges, streets and underpasses.
5. Collect and complete daily schedules; report all daily work to appropriate supervisor.
6. Maintain and repair a variety of concrete and asphalt materials including City streets, alleys, and utility piping as assigned; prepare obsolete concrete and asphalt for replace­ment; pour concrete and asphalt; finish concrete and lay asphalt as assigned.
7. Utilize a variety of manual tools to complete work projects.

1. Provide support to assist other staff in the completion of their duties and responsibilities; provide training and direction as needed.
2. May provide functional and technical supervision as assigned.
3. May participate in a variety of activities involving travel between various City facilities and to other related external business and government agencies that may include hauling materials, site repairs, delivering department materials and answering emergency calls.
4. Assist with preparation of concrete base including setting wood forms and positioning steel; pour concrete; remove wooden forms; clean site.
5. May assist with the preparation of sanding materials for roads under freezing and snowy conditions.
6. Barricade high water and construction areas as requested; may direct traffic detours as needed; assist with inspecting and cleaning streets and drainage areas following severe weather conditions including high water.
7. May respond to emergency situations as requested including hazardous and severe weather conditions; assist with cleaning up oil spills from accidents.
8. May clean and prepare site location for construction; clean work site when maintenance activities are completed.
9. May cut or trim vegetation as requested including trimming trees; remove and transport a variety of debris.
10. Provide and replace storm sewer inlet covers as necessary.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

• Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

• Requires six (6) months prior working experience in general labor.
• Must pass:  An equipment operation test for skid-steer loaders.

• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• Possession of a valid Class A Texas driver's license or obtain a Class A commercial driver's license within 90 days of employment as a condition of continued employment.
• Failure to obtain a Class A driver's license within 90 days of employment will result in non-disciplinary termination.

• Monday - Friday from 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM.
• Overtime and on call duty as needed.
