We are delighted to announce that we are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Fitter to join our manufacturing team at our Service centre in Rugby. As a member of our Manufacturing Operations team you will be an active contributor to the projects we have in the nuclear and naval sector. This role will require you to disassemble, inspect and re-assemble Steam Turbines and auxiliary equipment according to customer requirements and following the technical engineering documentation. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring that the equipment is assembled to a high standard of quality and adheres to safety and compliance regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out best in class craft skills in Fitting and Assembly processes to standard operating procedures and Service Centre norms.
  • Overhaul and assembly work required in line with the Service Centre business activities, Service Centre fitting and assembly activities and small, minor component adjustments either manually or on a small machine
  • Use basic inspection techniques and hand held inspection equipment to ensure quality of product.
  • Ensure processes are implemented in an efficient manner in line with business targets
  • Ensure quality of product and operations to meet drawing and customer requirements to standard hand trade and craft norms and best practices
  • Work as a team within the cells, across shifts and support and implement the needs of the business in terms of operational flexibility
  • Ensure all shift and weekly targets are achieved in line with cost, quality and EHS requirements
  • Support and take part in all EHS, Quality, Continuous Improvement and New Product Introduction Initiatives
  • To undertake any other duty and responsibility as may be required by the Line Manager
     

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Time Served Craft Apprentice or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of steam turbines would be beneficial but not essential
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
     

Desired skills and characteristics:

  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Good IT skills with familiarity to Microsoft Office package
  • Experience in basic inspection of components and using inspection tools
  • Continuous Improvement/Lean experience desirable

This work is undertaken with UK Defence customers which will require any individual applying for the role to hold or be capable of getting SC Level clearance as a UK Passport Holder. Applicants not cleared will not be accepted into the business until this clearance is provided. Dual passport holders are acceptable if the second country is approved by the vetting authority.
